Magic: The Gathering (colloquially known as Magic or MTG) is a tabletop and digital collectible card game created by Richard Garfield. Released in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast (now a subsidiary of Hasbro), Magic was the first trading card game and had approximately thirty-five million players as of December 2018, and over twenty billion Magic cards were produced in the period from 2008 to 2016, during which time it grew in popularity.
Dack Fayden, Planeswalker thief, has stolen a valuable artifact from Ravnica, the Ancient Fang. Using his abilities to learn the artifact’s secrets, he instead witnesses the destruction of his hometown through the eyes of the villain that committed that act: Sifa Grent. Dak sets out to track her down at her next destination: Innistrad.
In Innistrad, Dack confronts Sifa, but allows her to slip away at the last moment. He follows her trail but soon loses track of her over different planes. But, thanks to the Planeswalker Sorin Markov, Dack’s discovered Sifa’s plane of origin. The price for this information is steep, though: Dack is forced to hand over the Ancient Fang in exchange for Sorin’s information. Knowing the likely consequences if he were ever to return to Ravnica, Dack forges ahead and heads to Grixis, where he learns that Sifa is working for the demon-dragon Malfegor. Narrowly escaping from the monster’s clutches, Dack returns to Ravnica, where Sifa’s plan is beginning to unfold.
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, Now in Ravnica, Dack finds himself in quick trouble: Because he stole the Ancient Fang, the Cult of Rakdos have put a bounty on his head and have begun interrogating whoever might know where to find Dack. Vaclav, Dack’s fence, is injured this way and Dack rushes him to Fadka to heal him. There, Dack encounters Maytov, a rival thief who informs Dack about the bounty on his head. Dack manages to find a clue that leads him closer to Sifa, but a Rakdos demon almost brings the Planeswalker down. Dack escapes, but as he enters one of his secret safe house, he sees Maytov waiting for him.
Next in issue #2, On the run and out of time, Dack races to stop Sifa Grent’s most diabolic scheme yet: absorbing the life-force from the Vitu-Ghazi, the City-Tree, and elimination the Selesnya Conclave in the process.
Next in issue #3, Dack Fayden has finally uncovered Sifa Grent’s plan for Ravnica… and it could bring unbelievable devastation to the city-plane! Now, Dack must make his way through Ravnica, with Rakdos cultists and city guards hot on his trail, in the hope that he can stop Sifa before it’s too late!
Finally in issue #4, Dack Fayden confronts Sifa Grent in a battle that may be too much for the Planeswalker thief. With the fate of Ravnica hanging in the balance, Dack must rally all his strength to put an end to the villainous Sifa once and for all!
