Mars attacked. We lost. Martian’s rule the Earth. Mankind has been reduced to slave labor. The vicious Martians have returned, this time, to occupy Earth for good! Mars Attacks: Occupation follows Ruby Johnson, a member of the enslaved human race. Ruby has dreams of leading a resistance against the Martian Overloads but it seems pretty apparent that they are here to stay. There’s little hope in this new Occupied Earth…

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1RI, “Mars Attacked Aftermath”, The Martians came. The Martians saw. The Martians conquered. Now the space invaders cruelly rule over humanity, which has no hope for liberation… but Ruby Johnson has decided that she has had enough.

Next in issue #2RI, “Last Martian Standing”, Introducing Zar, a Supreme Sector Overseer. Zar rose to power and was given his current position because of his unwavering one-rule-fits-all treatment of the humans. His motto; No Mercy. Zar shows no mercy!! His reign is cruel and harsh and as a result he is able to keep control. Ruby is one small part of the world that isn’t under Zar’s control so after she gets into a fight with an over friendly resident, the Martians take her away to the Martian Gladiator Arena. In the holding cells she meets a selection of characters, all with no redeeming features or even memorable names. This is because they know that to fight in the arena is to die in the arena. What’s the point in making friends if neither you nor them are going to see out the day? One exception to this is Grady Rizzo who has seen the arena floor before and offers Ruby some advice; “If you want to survive a little longer, try to stay behind me.” Ruby isn’t fazed and she’s not about to curl up and die. She straps on her choice of weaponry and heads into the arena. The fight is hard and bloody and most of the humans fall beneath the Martian onslaught, as is expected by everyone. But Ruby can hold herself in a fight. With her father’s words echoing in her ears she tears the Martians apart which is something these alien invaders have never seen. Unfortunately for her, the entire arena event is being overseen by Zar and he shows No Mercy!!

Next in issue #3RI, “The Martian Hero”, Ruby is at a swanky party, dressed in figure hugging blue dress – but this isn’t some Prom night flashback, it’s a celebration for the Champion of the Coliseum, a.k.a. Ruby. Despite Zar’s fame for no mercy, the Supreme Sector Overseer was forced by public demand to save Ruby and allow her to fight another day. The party highlights the stark contrast the “lower class” humans and the “elite ruling class” Martians. It’s not just the expanse of food that the Martians have on offer but also the way they treat the human servants; they treat them with disrespect, contempt and their threats of violence are real. And Ruby has found herself in the center of it all. Of course the high life doesn’t last for long and the surprising return of Grady Rizzo reminds Ruby what she’s been through and what lies ahead. Rizzo managed to survive his recent disemboweling thanks to Martian tech and bio enhancements. He informs Ruby that she has the fight of her life ahead of her and he has been chosen to train her. The training is to take place in the Martian capital itself… where a Terraforming Station is changing the Earth’s atmosphere to a Martian atmosphere. The training goes well and Saturday night in the Arena comes. With it comes the toughest Martian Gladiators and Killbot-6, an utterly lethal bio enhanced killing machine. But Killbot-6 has some very familiar moves and Ruby is in for a shock.

Next in issue #4RI, ”The Face of Our Fight”, The Martians came, they saw, and conquered the earth with a mighty fist. Earth’s only hope lies in the hands of Ruby Johnson, the two-time gladiatorial champion. Supreme Overseer Zar’s ace card, Killbot 6, failed to annihilate Ruby Johnson in the arena. Her victories have not only spread a sentiment of hope and optimism among her fellow humans – becoming ‘The Face of our Fight’, but has also earned popularity within the Martian population…This will not stand. Consequently ,Ruby’s wins in the gladiator games doesn’t sit well with Overseer Zar, as she’s giving the human people hope. To crush the hope and optimism of the humans, Supreme Overseer Zar has given the order. It is time for Ruby’s story to come to an end… with Ruby’s ‘trial’, in which the verdict could only ever be guilty. It’s time for Supreme Overseer Zar to quash the glimmer of hope Ruby has instilled in the humans by showing the world that only the Martians will ever emerge victorious. Ruby is convinced that her father still lives, well sort of, in the form of Killbot 6. The Killbot was unable to kill her in the arena and she noticed that it possessed her father’s signature boxing moves – the clunky Killbot must have more points of articulation than it appears. Ruby is determined to find out the truth and decides to go to the Gladiatorial Combatant Training Grounds to face Killbot 6, alone…

Finally in issue #5RI, “Air of Victory”, Supreme Overseer Zar failed to kill Ruby Johnson, thanks to a bit of subterfuge by the human rebel force: Novas Vira…Including Grady Rizzo! Supreme Overseer Zar saw Ruby’s execution with his own googly eyeballs and, as he sees it, the Martian future is bright. Martian High Command are not convinced – why? Instead of Zar’s film of  ‘Ruby Johnson’s Execution’, playing on an eternal loop to disparage the human race – a message of hope from Ruby, alive and well, is being broadcast across all sectors sparking a human revolution… Zar has been humiliated and disgraced, but it’s not over yet. He has never hated a human as much as he does Ruby Johnson and he will have his revenge… For the last twenty years after the attack, the Martians have been reconstructing earth in Mars’ own image, to better suit their needs by building Terraforming facilities which will eventually make earth uninhabitable for humans, once the enslaved population have served their purpose of course. Supreme Overseer Zar is brought up to Martian High Command. He expects a promotion for his efforts in eliminating ‘The Agitator’, Ruby Johnson. Instead he is summarily dismissed by Martian High Command. Ruby lives and the human revolution begins…Zar has failed. As he is being dragged off of the premises, Zar tries in vain to be heard. What the Martians are about to face is much bigger than Ruby Johnson alone. He can see that now…but it’s too late.
