Description

Mars Attacks Popeye            One-shot Variant Comic
Features the Limited 1 for 25 Retailer Incentive B Variant Cover “Opus” by Berkeley Breathed.  Awesome!!
Writer: Martin Powell
Artist: Terry Beatty
Letterer: Terry Beatty
Editors: Clizia Gussoni & Craig Yoe
Variant “Retailer Incentive Opus” Cover by: Berkeley Breathed

Mars Attacks “Marsh-kins” invade Sweethaven. How can Popeye, Olive Oyl, Poopdeck Pappy, J. Wellington Wimpy, Prof. Wotasnozzle, Castor Oyl, & Eugene the Jeep possibly contend with this threat from those “Marsh-kins” from beyond the stars? And, just whose side is the Sea Hag, Alice the Goon, & the Goons on… The “Marsh-kins” or Seahaven?

Story/Spoilers
In “Popeye in Mars Attacks – Panic from the Sky!”, Sweethaven’s infamous Sea Hag, the longtime nemesis of Popeye the Sailor Man, has summoned the Martians with what appears to be some sort of crystal or gem. But it’s not those “Marsh-kins” that Popeye has to worry about… their blasted ray guns! Those ray guns have a very nasty habit of melting the flesh away from once living human skeletons. How can Popeye punch out that? Not even spinach can help! Luckily, Dr. Wotasnozzle, the town genius (there’s a tool for every job in the town of Sweethaven, apparently) has a plan. Jeep, the local dog with 4th dimensional powers (tool for every job), slips through some dimensional crack and lands inside the Martian ship where he’s able to steal one of the ray guns with ease.  Wotasnozzle studies this gun’s omega-wave frequency and manages to craft a device that lightens the blast.  Instead of melting flesh and burning bodies, it zaps only the victim’s clothes, leaving them naked. With the help of a Goon army, courtesy of Alice the Goon, a naked Popeye and his Poopdeck Pappy fight the Sea Hag, the Martians and giant robots. And when it looks like there’s no hope left, Popeye Poopdeck Pappy turn to a trusted can of spinach and eats… then the fists really start flying.
