This nostalgic new sci-fi title takes its cues from the original 55-card Topps collector set of the same name debuting back in 1962, with a barrage of frightening bubble-helmeted spacemen blasting pesky humans and national monuments with their electrifying disintegrator guns and blazing death rays. It also considers some of the more outrageous elements of Tim Burton’s 1996 sci-fi parody, Mars Attacks! Ack! Ack! Ack! the demented invaders from the Red Planet are set to launch an all-out assault on the Earth.

Dynamite’s version of this vintage classic finds the slacker character of Spencer paying a visit to his father to try and borrow some cash. But the Martian air force and infantry have arrived and are plotting world destruction and domination of the human species. Now Spencer and his dad are fleeing the saucer-led advance, trying to dodge space rays and power-hungry Martians, who are happily hellbent on zapping them like annoying insects.

Story/Spoilers
In part #1, Spencer hasn’t finished a dang thing in his life. So, when he goes to visit his dad to see if maybe he can borrow some money, the last thing on his mind is global survival. Now Spencer and his father are on the run, trying to avoid being spaceray’d by a bunch of destruction happy Martians, heck bent on zapping them dead!

Next in part #2, After a bunch of Martians come along and ruin everyone’s day (and planet), Spencer and the Major find themselves a bunch of second amendment lovin’ boys who ain’t afraid of no space men! But maybe safety isn’t as guaranteed as one would like when flying saucers and laser pistols are involved…?

Next in part #3, The Carbutt boys continue their trek to safety, this time with the help of the U.S. military, who plan on swatting the Martians like flies…until they see how big the Martian flies are, and, oh boy, there is gonna be a whole mess of trouble!

Next in part #4, Running from a bunch of wild Martians with nothing better to do than leave you a smoking pile of ash and having a good laugh about it will leave a man in need of some rest. When Spencer and the Major find a place to lay low for a while, they encounter a threat of a non-spaceman variety and things are going to get real tense!

Finally in part #5, When things may be at their lowest, Spencer Carbutt may just become the man that his father has been trying to make him amidst all of the explosions and meltings and giant insects making a mess of all types of infrastructure. Make sure you grab yourself a copy of the conclusion to the rootinest, tootinest, Martian-shootin’est comic book you did ever dang see!
