Meg Issue #1 Comic
Featuring the Rare Dabel Brothers 1st issue comic that was published leading up to the movie! Awesome!!
Story by: Steve Alten
Writer: J.S. Earls
Artist: Mike S. Miller
Colorists: J. Nanjan Jamberi, Vinicius Townsend & Periya Pillai
Letterers: Dave Lanphear & A Larger World Studios
Cover by: Mike S. Miller
A beautifully illustrated comic based on New York Times bestselling author Steve Alten’s novel and Major Motion Picture directed by Jon Turteltaub and starring Jason Statham as Jonas Taylor. This comic is illustrated by superstar artist Mike S. Miller, artist of George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones prequel “The Hedge Knight” graphic novel and the number 1 bestselling digital comic series, DC Comics “Injustice”.
This comic was made available by Dabel Brothers Publishing with an estimated low print run of only 600+ copies. Meg (2018) is an ill-fated title that was originally to have run for six issues instead of just the 1 that was published (with a very low printing) and is therefore an incomplete story (cliffhanger – see 11th scan for last panel)…. Nonetheless, Mike S. Miller’s “Meg” artwork is still awesome from cover to interior. Recommended for Megalodon enthusiast… as well as any Shark Movie enthusiast. An absolute must-have for any diehard Steve Alten or Meg enthusiasts.
The good news is that later in 2019, the “Meg” story continued/concluded with the “rest of the five issues” being printed in an ultra-rare trade paperback edition and hardcover edition, “Meg: The Graphic Novel”.
Once a Navy deep-sea submersible pilot, now a marine paleontologist, Dr. Jonas Taylor is convinced that a remnant population of Carcharodon Megalodon – prehistoric sharks growing up to 70 feet long, that subsisted on whales – lurks at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. When offered the opportunity to return to those crushing depths in search of the Meg, Taylor leaps at the chance… but the quest for scientific knowledge (and personal vindication) becomes a desperate fight for survival, when the most vicious predator that the earth has ever known is freed to once-again hunt the surface…
Story/Spoilers
During the Late Cretaceous Period, a Tyrannosaurus rex stumbles into the ocean while pursuing a herd of Shantungosaurus and is promptly attacked and devoured by a megalodon. The sequence is later revealed to be part of a slideshow by Jonas Taylor, a paleontologist and marine biologist, for his presentation on megalodon.
In 1997, Jonas was working deep in the Mariana Trench with the United States Navy. His mission is top secret and involves the study of hydrogen nodules to solve any future energy crises using nuclear fission, but unfortunately, it was his third dive in eight days, and he was exhausted yet was checked out by the Navy’s top medical officer Doctor Heller. While on the dive, Jonas watches in horror as a megalodon rises from the depths. Jonas panics and surfaces as fast as possible and escapes, but causes the death of the scientists as a result; unfortunately, the Navy does not believe his claims, labeling him a madman and ruining his career while simultaneously covering up the misjudgment of the medical officer. Years later, Jonas continues to try to prove that what he saw was real. His actions have also led Jonas to push away his estranged and separated wife, Maggie, and lead to her having an affair with his billionaire friend Bud Harris. He is later approached by an old friend, marine biologist Masao Tanaka, who lost a remote submersible that monitors seismic activity in the Mariana Trench and hopes to retrieve it. Seeing this as an opportunity to prove that the megalodon still exists, Jonas agrees to help Tanaka over the objection of Tanaka’s daughter, Terry.
Jonas and Tanaka’s son, DJ, dive in small submersibles when they arrive at the Trench. A male megalodon rises from the depths and, despite Jonas’ attempts to distract the creature, kills DJ. Jonas watches in horror as the megalodon is trapped in the steel cables connecting DJ’s sub to the ship. As the megalodon is pulled to the surface, having its organs and flesh ripped apart by the cables, Jonas watches a second megalodon, a much larger female attracted by the struggles of her dying mate, rise out of the Trench…
