Independent and/or Underground comix are small press or self-published comic books which are often socially relevant or satirical in nature. They differ from mainstream comics in depicting content forbidden to mainstream publications by the Comics Code Authority, including explicit drug use, sexuality, and violence. They were most popular in the United States between 1968 and 1975, and in the United Kingdom between 1973 and 1974. This comic listing published by Kitchen Sink Press is an Independent and/or Underground comix.

Although Kevin Eastman & Eric Talbot are widely- known and famous for The Teenage Mutant Turtles, which is as mainstream as any franchise can achieve, Melting Pot contains “very mature/very explicit” artwork with characters in “very mature/very explicit” situations. Very Mature Discretion is advised as (this comic set/lot can be considered rated X) Not suitable or intended for children or young Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans!

The Melting Pot is an adult graphic novel by Kevin Eastman, Eric Talbot, and Simon Bisley featuring Richard Corben-like painted artwork. Welcome to a land of monsters, beasts that walk like men, and a place of survival of the fittest. This is an uncompromising vision in the same vein as the adult animated movies Heavy Metal & Heavy Metal 2000!

Story/Spoilers
In part #1, A woman warrior in a battle-damaged starfighter crash-lands on a harsh and brutal planet where a few of the survivors of the “Big Dump” – the forced arrival of the planet’s population were stranded. Now nearly 300 years after the “Big Dump”, the factions or the “melting pot” of assorted alien races battle for supremacy of the planet. Daily survival is the best most can hope for as the woman warrior soon learns that this strange world is not a place for the weak. An army of millions lead by the evil and twisted Lord Tyler makes its yearly journey to the fortress of Shantarr to extract the yearly tribute. Ambassadors from Shantarr meet Lord Tyler and his army to make a plea to lessen the payment in order for their people to avoid starvation. The ambassadors are brutally killed, and Lord Tyler announces that Shantarr will be destroyed the following morning.

Next in part #2, Dawn… a wall of screams erupts as Lord Tyler’s army of millions descends upon Shantarr – a vision the inhabitants will remember until their deaths, which comes soon enough as the city dies Later, Lord Tyler demands a woman to appease his desires. The exotic and mysterious Sade submits herself to pleasing Lord Tyler… as well as several members of his army and in doing so transmits a fatal plague in them all. Lord Tyler, faced with the knowledge of his impending death goes into an insane rage and kills anyone and everyone in his path.

Next in part #3, In the shocking aftermath of last issue, Lord Tyler flees into the Badlands and slays anything that moves. Will he return in time to lead his troops into battle? Plus, a mysterious woman warrior cuts a swath of terror across the land on the way to her fateful meeting with Lord Tyler.

Finally in part #4, Lord Tyler rejoins and leads his armies into the Holy Land. The battle is joined, and carnage reigns supreme. That is until the arrival of the Holy One. This is the uncompromising conclusion in the same vein as the adult animated movies Heavy Metal & Heavy Metal 2000!!
