Description

Miracleman: Book One – A Dream of Flying        Trade Paperback
Writer: Alan Moore
Artists: Alan Davis & Garry Leach
Inker: Garry Leach
Colorists: Ron Courtney & Garry Leach
Letterer: G. George
Editor: Dez Skinn
Cover by: Garry Leach

Comic book super-heroes usually do what they do because they think it makes the world a better place. In their darker moments, however, they come to realize the truth: they’re simply defending the status quo. They can stop a criminal, but can they stop crime? They might save a person from dying in a plane crash, but can they stop death itself?

Miracleman (known as Marvelman in the UK) is a hero of a different sort. He really can change the world. He’s brought about an age of miracles, put an end to poverty and war. It almost sounds like a dream…

Continuing from a storyline started in the British comic magazine Warrior, Miracleman was written variously by Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman (in his pre-Sandman) days. It exhibits the sort of creativity that marks these two writers as among the best in the field.

Miracleman’s and the Miracleman Family’s origins are slowly revealed & unravels as Mike Moran learns that his memories & past are almost entirely a lie, a dream programming cooked up by the amoral scientist, Emil Gargunza, to control the power of these super beings under Project Zarathustra, a top secret project run by a shadow British Government organization, the Spookshow, headed by Sir Dennis Archer.

Story/Spoilers
In part #1, Mickey Moran was just a regular bloke with a wife and a job, until one day he *remembered*…that he was Miracleman, a glistening new god with powers far beyond those of mortal ken. He also remembered that, years ago, he and his sidekicks – Young Miracleman and Kid Miracleman – were in a horrible accident that left Young Miracleman dead. When Moran goes to see Kid Miracleman to help him piece together his past, our hero finds that his youthful protege has changed…for the worse.

Next in part #2, Miracleman takes on Johnny Bates (Kid Miracleman), grown up and gone bad.

Finally in part #3, Miracleman learns his secret origin in three connected memories.
