Description
Miracleman Book Four: The Golden Age Hardcover w/ Dust Jacket
Cover by: Mark Buckingham
Comic book super-heroes usually do what they do because they think it makes the world a better place. In their darker moments, however, they come to realize the truth: they’re simply defending the status quo. They can stop a criminal, but can they stop crime? They might save a person from dying in a plane crash, but can they stop death itself?
Miracleman (known as Marvelman in the UK) is a hero of a different sort. He really can change the world. He’s brought about an age of miracles, put an end to poverty and war. It almost sounds like a dream…
Continuing from a storyline started in the British comic magazine Warrior, Miracleman was written variously by Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman (in his pre-Sandman) days. It exhibits the sort of creativity that marks these two writers as among the best in the field.
And now, in Miracleman: Book 4, God exists. He walks among us, a benevolent but firm ruler, the idealistic visionary, bestowing gifts of technology and prosperity upon the masses. It is the Golden Age. The Adversary is abolished, divinity resides in Olympus, and the human race enjoys utopia. But are the people happy? Miracleman, once a well-scrubbed and bright-eyed super-hero, once a brainwashed experimental subject, the creation of the evil genius Gargunza, is now a compassionate ruler. Brave souls journey to the top of Olympus to seek boons of him. Noted artist and other remarkable and eminent people now dead are now resurrected by the alien technology of Mors the Warpsmith to create and to amuse. Spies and paranoids are rehabilitated in closed communities. It is a propitious time of halcyon days filled with promise. All over the earth multitudes glory in the peace of their remodeled lives. But some question paradise. Some ask themselves and their gods if this is right… if human nature wants to be guided, peaceful, happy and complacent.
Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham explore the chimerical world of the future, where superheroes walk as deities and mankind challenges itself to accept or to decline a place in the Golden Age.

In part #1, Miracleman has ascended to godhood, to the point where “pilgrims” attempt immense treks up to where he rules to make requests and pray to him.
Next in part #2, John Galloway meets Miraclewoman and they have a relationship that changes John forever.
Next in part #3, A man Miracleman killed is brought back to life and a reluctant Andy Warhol is put in charge of him.
Next in part #4, A hurting family has a visit from a superpowered child that is the daughter of Miracleman. The child’s relation to the family is that, as part of Miracleman’s rule, he created a program that childless woman could apply for to help them get pregnant with his children.
Next in part #5, An agent completes a dangerous mission, only for things to go awry afterwards.
Finally in part #6, Previous storylines converge at one of the many “Carnivals” around the world.

In “Rebirth”, It comes when least expected, snatching the immortal Zzed from his long-awaited suicide. The death beam with the power to destroy both Zzed and the universe has been intercepted by Tachyon, who vanished in a blinding flash. Now the remains of that cosmic energy have found their intended target, and Zzed bathes in the agonizing glow, screaming. Our heroes can only watch and wait as the stunning transformation takes place. Zzed is no more.
In his place is a new being, Dr. Eclipse, blessed with the knowledge and power of untold galaxies. But there is still grave danger: Nine-Crocodile’s temple machinery threatens the very fabric of time itself. Yet another hero must die if the universe is to be saved. Billions of lives hang in the balance…
