He was the original stretchable super-hero of the 1940s, and now Plastic Man is back in an all-new, all-zany 4-issue mini-series. Jack Cole’s Plastic Man is one of the oldest and most-loved comic super-heroes. Originally appearing in 1941, DC brings this stretchable crime-fighter into the current day in this four-issue mini-series. Along the way, they amend his origin slightly, and play up his comedic aspects. How zany is it? Take the stretchable power of the really long arm of the law, add to it his amazing ability to assume any shape under the sun, throw in a liberal dose of side-kick Woozy Winks and some of the wackiest bad guys in town, shake it all up with the creative talents of some of the best that comics has to offer…then double that and you’ll have some idea of what to expect in the pages of the Plastic Man mini-series.

In this series, Plastic Man was once a criminal named “Eel” O’Brian. Wounded in a break-in gone wrong, he fell into a vat of an experimental acid which had the effect of making his body act as if it were made of rubber. Confused by this sudden turn of events, Eel decided to ask his gang for advice, only to have them shoot at him, then run off in terror. The only friend he could find was a mental case named Woozy Winks. Woozy helped cheer Eel up and find him a costume: an old circus outfit. Then they resolved to make their fortune. The only question was, should they do it as criminals or as crime-fighters? They flipped a coin to decide… and a hero was born!

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, ”Plastic Man”, The criminal known as Eel O’Brian was along with his gang of underlings, and after he breaks into and attempts to rob the Cole Chemical, the police arrive on the scene. While Eel and the others flee, he is shot by a cop and is exposed to a unknown acid. He manages to make it outside, but stumbles down unconscious with the pain. When he awakens, Eel finds that his flesh is now elastic, and he has no control over it, taking strange and frightful forms. He scares everyone in his way: cops, drunkards, and even his own gang, who were considering him already dead, and shot him at first glimpse of his new form. Eel goes to a bridge to try commit suicide, but he is stopped by Woozy Winks, an former asylum inmate. Together, they decide to use O’Brian new-found powers to fight the crime. After expose a circus outfit to the same acid which gave the powers to O’Brian, he and Woozy thwart the attempted robbery of his former gang. When the press begins to interview him, Eel says he intends to call himself Elastic Man, which a reporter misunderstands as Plastic Man.

Next in issue #2, “The Ooze Brothers”, What’s got six legs, icky powers even stranger than Plastic Man’s, and causes more trouble than even Woozy Winks? That terrible trio, the Ooze Brothers, that’s who. Plastic Man and Woozy capture the Ooze brothers and help them find a use for their abilities other than crime.

Next in issue #3, ”Woozy Winks… and His Pal, Plastic Man”, Plastic Man and Woozy get wild and wacky in Los Angeles…and the first thing Woozy does is join a cult. Then Plastic Man has to rescue Woozy Winks after he joins a cult, but even Plastic Man might not be able to get him out.

Finally in issue #4, “Bagatelle”, Manhattan Island’s Central Park is turned upside down when bag people, aliens, flying saucers… and even Superman show up. This one’s got it all…including Plastic Man and Woozy. What more do you need to wrap-up the Stretchable Sleuth’s mini-series?
