Sir Peter Weyland interpreted a star map to the distant moon of LV-223 as an invitation from mankind’s creators – the Engineers. But when the exploration vessel Prometheus finally reached LV-223, they discovered that these creators may have been intent on mankind’s destruction. Decades after the disappearance of the Prometheus, Captain Angela Foster leads her own crew back to the distant moon. Angela and her team uncover two unexpected shipwrecks: one a human drilling craft from the neighboring moon of LV-426, the other an alien vessel containing a wealth of knowledge – and a mysterious genetic accelerant with unlimited potential, along with a bestial race of Aliens created by the accelerant. When Angela’s synthetic crewman, Elden, is injected with the accelerant, he begins to evolve. Driven mad by the mutagen’s effects, Elden unleashes the Alien horde upon the crew. Security chief Galgo Helder escapes into orbit on his own vessel. However, Galga is soon forced to return to LV-223 as the guide to a veteran Predator who wishes to hunt one of the enigmatic engineers. Now, reunited with Galgo after a deadly struggle against unimaginable horrors, Angela seeks the truth surrounding the original Prometheus mission…
Story/Spoilers
April 9, 2219, several months after the events of Prometheus: Fire and Stone Stranded on LV-223, with their supplies exhausted, the produce that sustained the survivors from Hadley’s Hope unpalatable and Jill sick, the human survivors from the Geryon salvage mission are starving and need meat. Captain Angela Foster is trying to line up a shot on a four-legged creature with her bow, but is being annoyed by Galgo. He decides he is going to just shoot the creature with his Engineer weapon, but alerts more of the creatures. Galgo and Angela fire at the oncoming beasts, but they are pinned down and drop their weapons. However, the creatures are suddenly killed by Ahab, who hadn’t been spotted in months and was believed dead by the humans.
Later in the night, back at the survivors’ cave inside a large mountain, Angela, sitting just outside the cave, notes that Ahab left one of the “pigs” and a few weapons he’d fashioned from bones and that she has difficulty communicating with her crew. She is interrupted by Galgo’s screams, who is having his wounds tended to by Chris. Angela calls for Chris and Galgo, spotting the Helios entering LV-223’s atmosphere. Chris believes that Elden is piloting the ship, while Angela notes that it’s coming in too fast. The ship crash lands on the surface and Angela attempts to put out the fire, hoping to recover food from the wreck, while argues. Suddenly, Elden, severely mutated by the “Accelerant”, emerges from the wreckage. Galgo returns to the cave while Angela stays with Elden, who Angela thinks is dying from the Accelerant.
In the morning, Angela wakes to Elden standing over her with a dead Alien in his hands, startling her. While salvaging parts from the wreckage of the Helios, Elden asks Angela if he or she has a soul, but Angela says that he would have to ask God or a priest. Elden asks if she believes in God, but Angela doesn’t respond. Elden tells her that he is building an bullhorn to signal for help, as it will take years for another ship to arrive. However, Angela says that they would need something that could produce a signal.
Returning to the cave, Angela gets “the professor’s” notes, which states that there’s a human beacon inside the mountain from a ship that crashed long ago — the Prometheus, Sir Peter Weyland’s ship. Galgo doesn’t want to go find the ship, but Jill doubts a rescue ship is coming at all. Chris and Jill stay in the cave with Galgo’s gun while he and Angela leave to go to the Onager with a plan to get Ahab to clear the ship of Aliens for them by putting Galgo in danger. He approaches the Onager unarmed, attracting small Aliens. Instead of Ahab, Elden shows up to defend Galgo, who runs away. The Queen inside the ship begins attempting to break out, making Galgo want to leave Elden, but Angela refuses. Ahab arrives and kills many Aliens before also killing the Queen and splashing her acid blood on more Aliens, killing them as well; the rest of the Aliens flee.
Ahab gets up and Galgo and Angela believe he is going to kill Elden. However, he sees the mark on Elden’s head given to him by a member of Ahab’s clan. Inside the ship, Angela discovers the Queen had grown too large to exit the Onager and that it still functions. The group take the ship and head to the mountain. Using its mining capabilities, Angela tunnels through the mountain. As they are tunneling the mountain, however, acid begins eating through the ship. They initially assume it is coming from the Queen’s corpse, but they discover they’ve tunneled into a massive vein; the “mountain” is alive.
They pilot the ship out of the vein and into a smaller tunnel. However, they find that the Prometheus’s signal is coming from behind a “wall”. Angela tries to dig through, but is stopped by Elden “because it’s alive!” He figures that the “mountain” was a being on the Prometheus that the Accelerant caused to grow around the ship. The walls begin closing in around the group, but Elden begins merging with a wall. He explains that he sought out Francis as they seek Weyland, who sought out his God; they all “crave meaning”, “thirst for understanding” and in their “arrogance”, believe they were made for a higher purpose and the knowledge of the purpose will “free” them. If their Gods will not give it, then they will “steal” it, so that they can become gods themselves, but none of them are more than the creature who became the mountain, “broken toys…mundane miracles…” Their Gods created them because they could.
Now heavily merged with the wall, Elden manages to open a small tunnel, which allows Angela, Galgo and Ahab to escape. The three make it to the surface and are joined by Chris and Jill as they look out across the horizon.
