This story takes place approximately forty-three years after the events in the motion picture Aliens and just over a year after the events in the Fire and Stone Story Cycle.
On the planet LV-223, the remnants of Captain Paget’s Colonial Marine platoon and other human survivors from previous missions joined a band of Predators in a seemingly doomed stand against a massive Alien swarm. It was only when Chris – a woman who had an unborn Alien queen gestating inside of her – killed herself and the larva that the attack ended. With nothing left to fight for, the Alien horde departed, and soon after, so did the Predators. But while waiting for their dropship to land, the marines discover they have one enemy left – a wounded Engineer determined to destroy them…
Story/Spoilers
Set directly after the events of Alien vs. Predator: Life and Death, LV-223 survivors Angela Foster, Singer and Humble are inside the interior of the Life and Death Engineer’s Juggernaut that had recently taken off from the moon. They are investigating a mural on the wall depicting an Engineer consuming Chemical A0-3959X.91 – 15 from an urn. Singer concludes that the mural is a physical representation of how the Engineers use the liquid to alter ecosystems and create life, specifically humans. Foster concludes that LV-223 was a depot and that the entire moon was a failed experiment, which is why they later began purging all life from it after the Xenomorphs infested it. This leads Foster to worry about how many planets the Engineers are unsatisfied with and if they may purge Earth as part of their cleanup. Humble speaks up and is more concerned with the direction in which the derelict is taking them.
Back on the moon, Sergeant Roth and his squad are waiting for a freight bus from the Hasdrubal to arrive. Whilst the crew wait in the temple, Captain Paget approaches Jill, who was mourning the loss of her recently deceased wife Chris. Though Paget tries to comfort her, Jill is cold, believing that nothing matters anymore without her wife. The Second Engineer, who was thought to be dead, suddenly emerges and attacks the two. After a brief fight between the marines and Engineer, Melville confronts the being and tries to reason with it, wishing for no needless violence. The second does not comply and grabs Melville and throws him onto the ground. As it prepares to deliver the finishing blow, Freebody saves him by gunning him down with her smartgun as the rest flee back into the depths of the temple, though the Engineer is unfazed. Jill suggests using the Engineer’s black goo against it as she grabs an urn. The rest help her and they pour it over the hallway where they first entered. The Engineer arrives and steps on the liquid. The liquid reacts aggressively to it’s bio-suit, giving Paget the opportunity to gun down the Engineer for good.
Meanwhile in the Juggernaut’s cockpit, the group discover that the first Engineer went into cryostasis and that it had set the ship to a course to Earth. Foster wakes the Engineer up, only to immediately throw a belt of grenades at him and detonates them, killing him. After recovering from the explosion, Singer notices that the ship is slowing down and that the group have arrived at an unknown planet.
Paget is seen back on the Hasdrubal, sending a message to her set course, Ganymede station, informing it that her crew had evac’d from LV-223 and were sent to hypersleep. She also informs that she is unaware of the presence of Foster, Singer and Humble and can only assume that they are dead.
