Description
Punisher: War Journal – Volume 2 {Goin’ Out West} Hardcover
Featuring the Marvel Premiere Edition. Awesome!!
Writer: Matt Fraction
Artists: Ariel Olivetti & Leandro Fernandez
Cover by: Ariel Olivetti
The Punisher (a.k.a. Frank Castle) was created by writer Gerry Conway and artists John Romita Sr. and Ross Andru, with publisher Stan Lee green-lighting the name. The Punisher made his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 (cover-dated February 1974). The Punisher is a war veteran and a United States Marine Corps Scout Sniper skilled in hand-to-hand combat, guerrilla warfare, and marksmanship.
Driven by the deaths of his wife and two children who were killed by the mob for witnessing a killing in New York City’s Central Park, Frank Castle becomes a vigilante who employs murder, kidnapping, extortion, coercion, threats of violence, and torture in his campaign against crime. As the Punisher, he wages a one-man war on the mob and all violent criminals. His family’s killers were the first to be… Punished!
Punisher War Journal was introduced following the success of “Punisher,” Marvel’s monthly series. “War Journal” has a harder edge than the monthly series, bringing a more realistic feel to Marvel’s most popular vigilante.
Can one man stand against an army fueled by pure hate? With recent tragedies still rattling in his head, Frank Castle finds himself tied to a fencepost with barbed wire, watching what may be his last sunrise. Somewhere along the U.S./Mexico border, a super-militia bent on igniting a race war has been killing scores of innocent people. By the time the last shot is fired and the last body falls, you’ll have met the modern incarnation of the Hate Monger and seen an all-new look for the Punisher. Meanwhile, in Washington DC, someone wants to have words with Frank about his recent patriotic costume change: the Winter Soldier himself, Bucky Barnes!
Story/Spoilers
In part #1, Punisher returns to the war zone to take out Sniper, the ex-vet madman who’s been killing members of his Vietnam unit. But will Frank Castle be the next hit? The armory’s locked and loaded, and so is the Punisher.
Next in part #2, The Punisher and Wolverine are trailing the same poaching ring in Africa- why then are these two fighting each other? With their hair-trigger tempers, this unlikely team-up may be more cause for concern than cause for good!
Next in part #3, An African poaching ring has been killing dinosaurs, but their operation ends here…at the end of Wolverine’s claws and Punisher’s firearms! That is, if Wolverine and Punisher don’t kill each other first.
Next in part #4, Gang leader Damage and his crew of lackeys play Punisher for a fool…and sorely regret the mistake. Punisher’s determined to get the drop on Damage- and whatever Punisher wants, Punisher gets.
Next in part #5, Punisher gets tangled up with the Black Widow.
Next in part #6, The Punisher tracks Sniper to Germany attempting to steal a new US army helicopter and files from NATO detailing the latest advancements in military technology to the Soviet Union. The Punisher then proceeds to get into a tank vs. helicopter battle with the mercenary in West Germany.
Finally in part #7, When the only member of Damage’s gang that the Punisher left alive returns to selling drugs, Frank’s plans to take him down are thwarted as Ron is sent to a boot camp program to rehabilitate him of his criminal ways.
