Description

Robert E. Howard’s: Blood and Thunder                                           One-shot Comic
Original Story by: Robert E. Howard
Writer: David Law
Artist: Rick McCollum
Inker: Rick McCollum
Cover by: Rick McCollum

Welcome to the unfortunate last “Robert E. Howard’s …” comic book to be published by Conquest Press. “Blood and Thunder” graphically depicts Robert E. Howard’s story “Law-Shooters of Cowtown”. Rick McCollum’s adaptation of the Grizzly Elkins story “Law-Shooters of Cowtown” is the most violent Robert E. Howard comics adaptation ever. Page after page of brutal, savage battle. Robert E. Howard’s storytelling heats up and gets out of hand as male dominance has its way, “Grizzly” style.

“Law-Shooters of Cowtown” is prime example of Robert E. Howard at his fast-paced, bloodthirsty best. Indeed, change a few elements and it could easily be a Conan or Crusader tale. Grizzly Elkins is a typical Robert E. Howard hero; strong, feral, able to take incredible punishment and living by his own peculiar code of honor.

Features:
“Law-Shooters of Cowtown”. (graphic adaptation, 25 pages)
An awesome article on Robert E. Howard entitled “Robert E. Howard: Cross Plains Outsider” by Rick McCollum. (3 pages) (see 11th scan)
Pin-Ups of “Robert E. Howard” by Rick McCollum.
Advertisement for the ill-fated next issue featuring Robert E. Howard’s Names in the Black Book. (see 12th scan) It would have been awesome.

Story/Spoilers
Grizzly Elkins was one of the army of buffalo hunters wandering between the Pecos and the Upper Missouri, he was as much a part of that wild land as one of the beasts he hunted. Truly a grizzly man to be reckoned with…as the townsfolk of Cowtown would soon find out. When a game of chance takes a wrong turn in the Silver Boot Saloon, Grizzly Elkins, buffalo hunter, unleashes a brutal and deadly attack on Jack Kirby, a gambler and gunman. Fellow saloon patrons do not take kindly to the death of Jack and shout, “Grab him”, “Shoot him”, “He murdered Kirby, the son of a…” and things quickly escalate until Buck Chisom, The Marshall’s gun-fighting deputy intervenes, and Grizzly Elkins finds himself in the town’s jail. However, the saloon patron’s blood lust for revenge is not satiated and they inadvertently “bust him out” as they “bust in” to take justice into their own hands. Death and mayhem ensue has Grizzly Elkins leaves a bloody wake on his way out.
