Also included is the first appearance and story of the Swamp Thing from “The House Of Secrets” #92. The stories by Len Wein are well written, venturing from dark to lighthearted and sympathetic. The artwork is topnotch, drawn by comics’ legend Bernie Wrightson. Wrightson’s pencils create the perfect atmosphere for our beloved monster, moody/macabre tones and fantastic facial expressions. Wrightson’s artwork is also dark, creepy, and makes you feel the moss and dirt crumbling off of Swampy with every step he takes. As a bonus this book includes Swamp Thing #11-13, with artwork by Nestor Redondo.

This is not the elemental-fantasy Swamp Thing of Alan Moore & John Totleben. Instead, this is a more horror-oriented version that would fit right in with an EC comic or Warren magazine. These macabre classic tales feature the first appearance of Arcane and his Un-Men, the Patchwork Man, a great team-up of sorts with Batman, and confrontations with werewolves, aliens, robots, and ghosts.
