Death Hunt

As an arch-assassin, Sabretooth uses his teeth and claws to do his deadly work. Having gained a name for himself with his effectiveness and savage enjoyment of his work, he now earns a very comfortable living. All that is disturbed one night when his live-in “companion” arranges for his abduction. Taken into the none-too-gentle care of a figure known as the Tribune, Sabretooth unwillingly undergoes a series of operations. These operations have the effect of increasing his strength, so that he might carry out a very special assassination. At the same time, six ounces of explosive is implanted next to his heart to ensure his compliance. Having little other choice, Sabretooth agrees to the mission. But as soon as it’s over, he’ll be coming back… for revenge!

Stories/Spoilers
In issue #1, “Home Is the Hunter”, Sabretooth, a.k.a. Victor Creed, gets a ride to his mansion in Vancouver from Seattle in Psi-Borg’s limo. The moment Sabretooth gets out and the limo drives away, Creed is attacked by a large group of the Hand. He fights them off but calls for his assistant Birdy, who shows up and kills the remaining ninjas with her over-sized machinegun. Creed and Birdy return to the mansion and make their way to a hot tub where Creed relaxes and Birdy uses her psychic powers to review Sabretooth’s newly surfaced memories; which were a gift from Psi-Borg. It is a memory of Victor when he was a kid, where his father wanted to kill him upon discovery of Victor’s newly manifested mutant powers. Victor’s mother tries to prevent it and gets her finger bit for her effort. His father attempts to remove Victor’s teeth with pliers instead. The memory is embarrassing to Victor and he punches Birdy, knocking her unconscious. Later, while Creed is sleeping, Birdy sneaks around the mansion and disables the security protocols. She opens the door to a huge tactical unit of soldiers who have come for Sabretooth. Creed wakes up and is able to fight back, even switching the security program back on and causing the deaths of many of the soldiers. However, the assault team proves too much for Victor and he is soon subdued with the use of tasers, steel nets, and horse tranquilizers. Sabretooth wakes up on an operating table and is addressed by a heavily armored man who calls himself the Tribune. The Tribune tells Victor that he has had his surgeons working on Sabretooth to add upgrades to him, making him more powerful than before. He also had a bomb placed next to Sabretooth’s heart. The Tribune demands that Sabretooth kill Mystique.

Features a Die-Cut cover with painted cover art by Mark Texeira!  Awesome!!

Also features “Sabretooth” pinup art by Travis Charest & Michael Golden.

And Back cover art by Mark Texeira.

Next in issue #2, “A Kiss before Dying”, Sabretooth is free of Tribune and must kill Mystique, but first is after Birdy for betraying him. Sabretooth returns to his mansion just as Birdy is trying to escape in his car. Sabretooth breaks a wall and grabs his secret motorcycle. Birdy runs over Sabretooth only to hop in the car. The car hits the rail, and they go over the bridge. Sabretooth makes Birdy go into his head to learn about Tribune. Later, Birdy helps Sabretooth track down Mystique in Paris. After chasing her, Mystique shape shifts into his mother. This weirds out Sabretooth. Mystique runs to the Eiffel Tower to her date, Wolverine.

Next in issue #3, “City of Light, City of Night!”, Sabretooth and Wolverine fight on the Eiffel Tower. Mystique breaks it off and explains why she knows so much about Sabretooth. Sabretooth worked together with Wolverine on Team X. After a mission in Berlin, Sabretooth went rogue and worked on his own. At this time, Mystique went undercover as Leni Zauber and worked with Sabretooth for a brief time. Wolverine leaves Mystique after knowing she has been with Sabretooth and had a kid. Sabretooth learns that his human son sent him to kill Mystique, his mother. Birdy and Sabretooth take a plane to New York City.

Finally in issue #4, “Sins of the Fathers!”, Sabretooth tracks down his son, Graydon. Sabretooth throws his son out of the window. Sabretooth has the doctor take out the bomb in his chest. Graydon is not dead and kills Birdy because she is Sabretooth’s salvation.
