Marvel Comics UK 1975 Complete 1st Series

Marvel UK was an imprint of Marvel Comics formed in 1972 to reprint US-produced stories for the British weekly comic market. In 1972, seeing a gap in the popular weekly comics market of the UK, Marvel Comics formed their own British publishing arm, Marvel UK (under the corporate name of Magazine Management London Ltd.). Marvel UK featured mainly black-and-white art with spot coloring (except for the front and back pages which were in full color) in a magazine-sized format. Originally the weekly comic was created by slicing up storylines from the monthly American versions. In early 1975, Savage Sword of Conan was added as a weekly title to the Marvel UK line-up. The Savage Sword of Conan (Marvel UK 1975 1st Series) features reprints in Black & White of Conan the Barbarian (1970), Kull, the Conqueror (1971), Creatures on the Loose (1971), Black Knight (1955), Astonishing Tales (1970), Monsters on the Prowl (1971), & Monsters Unleashed (1973). Marvel UK also had a Savage Sword of Conan (2nd Series) which ran for 92 issues from 1976 to 1985.

She hires Conan to steal from the wealthy merchant Kallian, who temporarily houses a mysterious bowl from Stygia, said to contain a great treasure. Conan burgles the merchant’s house, finds the bowl empty and Kallian dead. The city guard appears and Lady Aztrias accuses him of killing Kallian. The real killer was in the bowl, however: a serpent-man, a big snake with a human head. Conan kills the sepent-man and saves Demetrio. In a vision, Conan sees the Stygian sorcerer Thoth-Amon. Adapted from REH story “The God in the Bowl”.

Conan comes across the ruins of the ancient city of Lanjau, where he battles a giant lizard. He meets a nameless mercenary and they both decide to work together in order to retrieve the lost treasure of Lanjau. Undead creatures, keepers of the crypt, try to stop them but are defeated by sunlight. An earthquake buries the mercenary, Lanjau and the treasure. Conan comes to a nearby village, where he once again meets Jenna. When soldiers come to arrest him, Conan and Jenna flee the village on a horse.
Based on the unfinished story fragment Hall of the Dead by Robert E. Howard.

They manage to escape, however, and Conan throws the Queen to the monster. According to tradition, Zahmahn can only be ruled by a female sovereign, so Conan nominates Yaila as the new queen.

Jenna then steals all his gold and leaves.

Conan saves Lady Aztrias of Numalia from a pack of wolves. She hires Conan to steal from the wealthy merchant Kallian, who temporarily houses a mysterious bowl from Stygia, said to contain a great treasure. Conan burgles the merchant’s house, finds the bowl empty and Kallian dead. The city guard appears and Lady Aztrias accuses him of killing Kallian. The real killer was in the bowl, however: a serpent-man, a big snake with a human head. Conan kills the sepent-man and saves Demetrio. In a vision, Conan sees the Stygian sorcerer Thoth-Amon. Conan comes across the ruins of the ancient city of Lanjau, where he battles a giant lizard. He meets a nameless mercenary and they both decide to work together in order to retrieve the lost treasure of Lanjau. Undead creatures, keepers of the crypt, try to stop them but are defeated by sunlight. An earthquake buries the mercenary, Lanjau and the treasure. Conan comes to a nearby village, where he once again meets Jenna. When soldiers come to arrest him, Conan and Jenna flee the village on a horse.
Based on the unfinished story fragment Hall of the Dead by Robert E. Howard.

Conan becomes Captain of the royal guard in the small city-state of Zahmahn as well as the lover of Queen Fatima. When the Queen catches Conan with the servant girl Yaila in a delicate situation, she leaves them in the dungeon to be devoured by the Dweller in the Dark. They manage to escape, however, and Conan throws the Queen to the monster. According to tradition, Zahmahn can only be ruled by a female sovereign, so Conan nominates Yaila as the new queen.
