The Scorpion King is a 2002 American action-adventure film directed by Chuck Russell, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kelly Hu, Grant Heslov, and Michael Clarke Duncan. It is a spin-off to The Mummy Returns and follows the story of the Akkadian, Mathayus and his rise to become the Scorpion King… the desert warrior who rises up against a powerful evil sorcerer and his army that is destroying his homeland.
Now, Dark Horse Comics presents the untold prequel story to the 2002 Universal Pictures blockbuster hit film, The Scorpion King! This comic series chronicles the events of the low-born warrior and assassin Mathayus, and his tale of breaking his bonds as a slave to become king of his people and lead them in battle against the threat of the evil King Memnon of Gomorroh.
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, Destiny will call him the Scorpion King. To save his kingdom from an evil tyrant, Mathayus must recover a mystical book from the cave of an unspeakably horrific monster. This book holds the power to prophesize the future, and with it the power to rule the world!
Finally in issue #2, Before he became the monstrous human-scorpion hybrid, Mathayus was a hero of the Akkadian people, a tribe of warriors in pre-Egyptian times. His people were wiped out at the hands of the evil Memnon, stirring his want for justice.
