Not really a comic book, Screen Monsters is actually a series that narrates the history of movie monsters in illustrated prose form. Readers could learn the inside information behind some of history’s most popular monster movies, as well as browsing filmographies of their favorite monsters. In 1944 and 1945, for instance, the movie industry was busily trying to include as many monsters into each film as possible. Things got a bit crowded in films like “The House of Dracula,” and “The House of Frankenstein,” where Boris Karloff starred as the owner of a sideshow that included Dracula, the Frankenstein monster, Wolfman, and a hunchback. Those were the days. Now, revisit that time of monster mayhem in this Movie Monster collection… all Presented in Glorious Black & White.

This issue pays tribute to Ray Harryhausen. This double-sized issue is devoted to special effects legend, Ray Harryhausen. Also includes a complete film log of his movies. When it comes to motion picture special effects, there is only one name that personifies movie magic – Ray Harryhausen. From his debut films with George Pal to his final film, Harryhausen imbued magic and visual strength to motion picture special effects as no other technician has, before or since. Ray Harryhausen was an American animator and special effects creator who created a form of stop motion model animation known as “Dynamation”. His works include the animation for Mighty Joe Young (1949) with his mentor Willis H. O’Brien (for which the latter won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects); his first color film, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958); and Jason and the Argonauts (1963), which featured a sword fight with seven skeleton warriors. His last film was Clash of the Titans (1981), after which he retired.
