Grant Morrison gives mainstream Marvel Comics a swinging neck breaker in a series that’s been considered “the most unique thing Marvel has put out in a long time — a total blast!” If mainstream Marvel Comics ever had a cult favorite series, then “Skrull – Kill Krew” would be it!!
Deluged with mutants, the world has forgotten its more historical foes. One of them is the Skrull—a race of aliens with the power to shapeshift. A force of undercover Skrull agents have come to take over the Earth. They infect a hamburger chain with an alien virus that causes the brain to disintegrate in months.
In an ironic twist of fate, the infection gives humans the power to see Skrulls for who they are, and to morph their own bodies into other forms. A group of infected people band together to seek out other victims and to destroy the Skrull agents. Like Monty Python’s Spanish Inquisition, they appear unexpectedly and exterminate the Skrull wherever they hide, as friend or co-worker. Do you know what your friends are?
Story/Spoilers:
In issue #1, “Skrull Meat”, Ryder and Moonstomp are two members of the Skrull Kill Krew who’ve been infected with a Skrull virus which gives humans the ability to morph into but destroys their brains over a period of time; They’ve been making the best of a bad situation by recruiting similarly infected while fragging Skrulls as they uncover them. But with a shortened life expectancy, will these new Kill Krew members be able to stamp out the Skrulls before they infiltrate society?
Next in issue #2, “Goin-Krazy!”, Those infected with the Skrull virus continue to struggle with their less-than-human identity. Captain America joins the Kill Krew, giving this ragtag band the back-up of a seasoned Avenger! When the Krew picks their 5th member, they rumble with Hydra and the super soldier!
Next in issue #3, “Gotcha!”, Guest-starring Captain America. The Krew explores the outer limits of their shapeshifting abilities against the many heads of Hydra! Why is Baron Von Strucker getting involved in Skrull business? The answer will surprise you! Captain America shields a foreign dignitary from the arms of Hydra, Baron Strucker, and the Kill Krew! Why does the Krew clash with Captain America?? Because that’s no foreign dignitary, that’s a Skrull!
Next in issue #4, “Four”, The Fantastic Four get a Skrull make-over! When the FF breeze through a small American town in their Fantasticar, all heads turn in suspicion. It’s up to the Kill Krew to ensure the completion of their mission: eliminate the Skrulls at all costs! The Krew crash towards Skrull central, and are attacked by …the Fantastic Four?
Finally in issue #5, “Skrullsville!”, It all collides here! It’s a drag-down, knock-out brawl in Pleasant Valley, undercover suburbia of the Skrulls! The Kill Krew rumbles into an average Midwestern town — except that every citizen is secretly a stinkin’ Skrull! Looks like that population figure on the city limits sign is going to change in this oddball “tough, hard-hitting” conclusion to the Kill Krew saga, complete with blood, sweat, and blaster guns!
