Description
Solomon Kane Trade Paperback Lot
The Complete 3 Book Collection featuring: The Castle of the Devil, Death’s Black Riders, & Red Shadows. Awesome!!
Solomon Kane is a fictional character created by the pulp-era writer Robert E. Howard. A late-16th-to-early-17th century Puritan, Solomon Kane is a somber-looking man who wanders the world with no apparent goal other than to vanquish evil in all its forms. Howard described him as a tall, somber and gloomy man of pale skin, gaunt face and cold eyes, all of it shadowed by a slouch hat. He is dressed entirely in black and his weaponry usually consists of a rapier, a dirk, and a brace of flintlock pistols. His adventures, published mostly in the pulp magazine Weird Tales, often take him from Europe to the jungles of Africa and back. But now, Dark Horse presents their iteration of Robert E. Howard’s “Solomon Kane”!

“The Castle of the Devil”
Writer: Scott Allie
Artist: Mario Guevara
Colorist: Dave Stewart
Letterer: Richard Starkings
Editors: Patrick Thorpe & Philip R. Simon
Cover by: Mike Mignola & Dave Stewart
Howard’s vengeance-obsessed puritan begins his supernatural adventures in the haunted Black Forest of Germany in this five-issue adaptation of Howard’s ‘The Castle of the Devil.’
Story/Spoilers
In part #1, When Solomon Kane stumbles upon the body of a boy hanged from a rickety gallows, he goes after the man responsible-a baron feared by the peasants from miles around. Something far worse than the devilish baron or the terrible, intelligent wolf that prowls the woods lies hidden in the ruined monastery beneath the baron’s castle, where a devil-worshipping priest died in chains centuries ago.
Next in part #2, Mysteries emerge during Solomon Kane’s stay in the Castle of the Devil – the beasts that prey upon the local peasantry make their presence known, and another body is discovered. Kane begins to doubt the legends about the ancient chapel beneath the castle. Did a devil-worshiping monk really die there at the hands of his brothers, or was there something even more sinister afoot? And what lives down there now?
Next in part #3, With more dead bodies discovered around the fabled Castle of the Devil, the determined Puritan adventurer Solomon Kane and his new ally John Silent look for answers in a pile of ancient bones buried deep in the abbey beneath Baron von Staler’s fortress. The Baroness is missing, and the Baron accuses Solomon Kane. Tempers flare, and blades are drawn-but the real monster remains unseen.
Next in part #4, With his host wounded-and bodies piling up in both the Black Forest and the Castle of the Devil – Solomon Kane tries to keep himself and his deceptively simple companion, John Silent, from quick deaths on the gallows. The lovely, scheming Mahasti is missing, supernatural horrors lurk in the forest, and Baron von Staler becomes a bit unhinged.
Finally in part #5, The Castle of the Devil hides several secrets – the most horrible of which may still be locked at the base of the castle in the ruins of an ancient abbey. Solomon Kane gets closer to unveiling the truth behind the crazed monks who used to live there, as he deals with the castle’s current batch of strange inhabitants. Escaping with John Silent, his wounded companion, is out of the question, because Kane also seeks justice for the souls of innocent children who were killed on the gallows that litter this evil, tainted region of Germany’s Black Forest.

“Death’s Black Riders”
Writer: Scott Allie
Artist: Mario Guevara
Colorist: Juan Ferreyra
Letterer: Richard Starkings
Editors: Patrick Thorpe & Philip R. Simon
Cover by: Mike Mignola & Dave Stewart
Taking place after the events in Solomon Kane: The Castle of the Devil – but written to stand on its own – this new series delves deep into the horrors scattered throughout Germany’s Black Forest.
Story/Spoilers
In part #1, Kane comes across gypsies being terrorized by roving bandits. He’s not sure what’s worse – the bandits who wish to rob and rape innocent travelers, or the evils that spew forth from the forest, intent on killing every man and woman around!
Next in part #2, After a harrowing battle with the disgusting and deadly Black Rider creatures, even confident, stalwart combatants like Solomon Kane and the mysterious L’Armon know enough to seek safety during the sinister hours of the night. The shelter they’ve stumbled upon looks foreboding, but its heavy doors will keep those that lurk in the forest at bay. However, will the wickedness within this strange tavern prove to be deadlier than the evil beasts roaming outside?
Next in part #3, Solomon Kane and a frightened priest may not live through the night! One will rely on his guts and guile, while the other will feel that consecrating the building with prayer will be enough to protect them. The Cleft Skull tavern seems to attract the deadliest sort of troubles Germany’s Black Forest can offer-and the dangers found within and without the Cleft Skull threaten to destroy our strange hero and his frightened, new companion!
Finally in part #4, The Cleft Skull may be the most dangerous place for travelers in Germany’s Black Forest, but, for the moment, it is Solomon Kane’s only sanctuary from the deadly demons without-Death’s Black Riders! They have surrounded the rickety inn and are waiting for the opportune moment to strike! If he and the Priest are to see England again, they’ll have to confront the Riders head on! Outnumbered and with only two shots in his guns, Solomon Kane will have to rely on his wits and his sword arm to save the Priest and escape the inn alive!
