Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, On a rooftop in New York City, several gangsters are attached by an unseen assailant. Elsewhere, the voice of K7-Leetha can be heard announcing her awakening and lineage. She dreams she is Albert Simmons. She chases Demons and slaughters them. Al is suddenly awoken by his street bum friend who tell him he was dreaming, and his cape was going wild. Al is embarrassed and walks away as he needs to find out what his suit is doing and how it’s alive. Twitch Williams and Sam Burke arrive at the murder scene. Twitch tells him is the 9th year they’ve been partners. They both can’t believe the murder scene. The department decided to bring in a paranormal expert to investigate. At a press conference, John Sansker arrives. He displays several photos he has taken of Spawn and announces that it is most likely a vampire. They place warning photos of Spawn up around the city, warning citizens to stay clear. Spawn sees the flyers and is outraged as he thinks he’s only helping the city. That night, money launderers are attached by an unseen assailant again. K7-Leetha dreams she descend upon demons again. Spawn wakes up in the middle of the street with blood on his hand and surrounded by NYPD. He panicked if his suit has been forcing him to perform the late-night killings.
Next in issue #2, Spawn heads toward Jacob Groenfeld’s apartment. He was an urban arms dealer and old CIA contact. Spawn believes he may have the missing guns from his alleyways. Jacob tells Spawn he has the equipment, and they talk like old friends again. John Sansker appears on a talk show where they discuss the menace of Spawn. The host asks if he believes he’s a vampire, and Sansker skirts the question. After the show, Sam Burke informs Sansker that there was a sighting. He tells them he’s with a man named, “Sonny”. He asks Mr. Sansker if Spawn is a vampire, why was blood not drained from the victims. He also asked if he thought there was a connection with the blood bank robbery the previous night. Sansker walks past Burke towards a helicopter to chase after Spawn and tells him he doesn’t have time or know the answers. As Spawn and Jacob talk, they joke about their old nicknames and Jacob reveals his nickname was “Sonny”. A beating sound can be heard similar to the sounds at the murders from the previous night. Jacob slips and tells Spawn Sansker is Canadian which he shouldn’t know. Spawn realizes he’s been setup as Sansker bursts in through the window. As they struggle, Spawn realizes Sansker is faster than he is. As he’s about to be knocked unconscious when his suit springs to life and knocks Sansker back. As a helicoptor police arrive, Spawn takes off. Sansker begins recovering and jumps in the vehicle demanding to return back home. He tells the driver he needs to sleep during the day so he can hunt his prey at night. Spawn struggles to take his suit off. He throws it into a treasure chest and lets it sink into the ocean. Spawn returns home to sleep in his chair. He’s awoken by his street bum friends who have stabbed a wooden stake into his heart.
Next in issue #3, The bums light Spawn on fire after not going down with a stake through the heart. Spawn runs towards water to put the flames out. As he does, he wonders what’s gone wrong with his life. His bum friends are trying to kill him, the CIA friend Groenfeld turned on him, the media thinks he’s a vampire, nothing goes right for him he thinks. As he jumps in the water, he remembers that his suit was buried here. The suit breaks free from the chest and comes for him to be bonded again for life. Burned, exhausted and nearly drowned, spawn heads for two sewer pipes to rest. Upon hoisting himself into them, he sees the Clown waiting for him. Spawn assumes a defensive gesture and asks if he’s going to kick him off a roof again. Spawn soon learns Sansker published articles on him being a Werewolf and he’s also on the run. At the New York City Police Department, Sam Burke asks Twitch Williams if he thinks Spawn was involved in the blood bank robberies. He still can’t shake the issue that the victims didn’t have their bodies drained of blood. Violator explains the K7-Leetha is a pure-bred and feeds off of souls. He tells him that the blackouts were probably caused by her breeding cycle and that there’s no way he’s a vampire since he’s already dead. Twitch Williams is researching John Sansker’s past. He finds articles going back 50 to 300 years in the past. He realized John Sansker may be an immortal vampire himself. Suddenly, Twitch is surprised by Sansker appearing behind him and catching him in the act. Spawn begins rethinking his decision of dumping the suit. He finds himself exhausted without and thinks about how Violator said it was symbiotic. He uses Necroplasm to spruce up a car for him to take to the wharf where he left his suit. Burke walks into Sanskers office to tell him a sighting has been made of Spawn. As Sansker leaves, Burke sees a trail of blood coming from a locker. He opens it to find his partner Twitch a blood mangled pretzel. Sansker pulls over Spawn’s car in the police helicopter. He leaps out to attack Spawn who loses control of the car and finds himself hurled into the water.
Finally in Issue #4, As Spawn drowns, he frantically searches for his suit as he realizes he now needs its power. Spawn swims to the trunk and unleashes K7-Leetha to be reunited once again. Sam Burke pulls up to the dock where John Sansker just threw the Spawn in. He hears over the radio that Twitch Williams is in the hospital and not doing well. Sam tells Sansker to freeze and put his hands behind his head. Sansker reveals he’s a vampire that was born in 1082 France. He takes off his clothes as he attacks the officers. As Sansker is about to kill Sam, Spawn springs out of the water and saves his life. Sansker laughs and tells him New York City was only a trial run before he takes Hong Kong. As the sun comes up, Sansker takes off and says he’ll see him in 2010 in Hong Kong. When the police back-up arrive, Sam asks Spawn to stay, and he’ll help make it right. Spawn dives into the water and runs from everyone.
