All Covers by: Scott Clark & Sal Regla
A highly trained assassin, murdered by his employer and former friend Chapel. Albert ”Al” Francis Simmons sold his soul to Malebolgia, one of the many rulers of the Hell, in order to see his wife Wanda Blake again. Malebolgia had other things in mind for Al and sent him back to earth with no memory as a Hellspawn, one of his soldiers, to do his bidding. After realizing what he had lost, Al swore revenge, and became the vigilante known as Spawn.
The WildC.A.T.s (Covert Action Teams) were founded by Jacob Marlowe, aka Lord Emp, to battle the Daemonite infiltration of Earth. Bringing together the Kherubim halfbreeds from around the world, and training them to stop Helspont and his race from taking dominion over the planet. The original WildC.A.T.s (Covert Action Team) consisted of: Spartan, Grifter, Zealot, Voodoo, Maul, and Lord Emp.
The future is in chaos.
It’s up to Spawn and the WildC.A.T.S. to go forward in time to stop an unimaginable evil.
Image Comics presents a tale of Spawn invading the WildC.A.T.s headquarters in retaliation for what he believes was an unwarranted attack. In the ensuing fight, Spawn discovers that he might have been too hasty in his quest for revenge since the WildC.A.T.s heroes, Zealot and Grifter, are markedly different than the Zealot and Grifter who attacked him. The actual attackers emerge and reveal that, much like another villain, The Terminator, they are on a mission from the future to alter the past. Neither Spawn nor the WildC.A.T.s know that beyond the edge of time and space, omnipotent beings are meddling with reality for their own amusement, and that our heroes may be mere puppets for these ethereal entities.
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, “Devil Day: Part One”, Spawn is attacked by a pair calling themselves Grifter and Zealot, but the couple leave in the dark. Spawn then tracks them down, learning that there is a Zealot and Grifter in the WildC.A.T.S. Tracking them down to their headquarters, Spawn attacks the team but soon realizes that the Zealot and Grifter on the team weren’t the ones who attacked him in the alley. Before too long, the ones that attacked Spawn appear and reveal that they are from the future, with Grifter being the same but accompanied with a new Zealot. They explain that in the future, Spawn will take over the world after finding a talisman. The WildC.A.T.S and Spawn travel to the future to see if they can change it under the power of Void.
Next in issue #2, “Devil Day: Part Two”, Spawn and the WildC.A.T.S travel to the future where a future version of Spawn, named the Ipsissimus, has ruled the world and made it demonic. After a scuffle with two of the Phlebiac Brothers, Vindicator and Vaporizer, the heroes meet the future Ben Santini. He’s part of the opposition against the Ipsissimus and has started a new team of Black Razors, even though they are young kids. He leads them to the future WildC.A.T.S and they make a plan of action. Before too long, Troika attacks. The three members were fused together by the Ipsissimus on a whim. Void teleports them out of there and they make the journey to the inevitable battle.
Next in issue #3, “Devil Day: Part Three”, Spawn (Simmons) and the WildC.A.T.s team set to wage the war against the Ipissimus in his resent enslavement of the United States of America. The Black Razor squadron along with Spawn, past and future WildC.A.T.s reflect on the fates that could be. Cameos of traitorous Gen-13 heroes Burnout and Grunge plus captive heroines lead the team to descend face to face with the future Spawn tyrant.
Finally in issue #4, “Devil Day: Part Four”, The future tyrant of Spawn (Simmons), Ipissimus, comes into the folds fighting his past self as well as the remaining WildC.A.T.s as they fall into killing some of their future selves to spare the suffering of Hell on Earth. Spawn is set back to the past with the very power source that lead him to the nightmare future he’s witnessed. Returned to his timeline, Spawn is at a fated crossroads- does he continue his suffering a slave to Hell or does he take means to free himself at a cost of destroying the world?
