Species is a 1995 American science fiction horror film directed by Roger Donaldson and written by Dennis Feldman. It stars Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen, Alfred Molina, Forest Whitaker, Marg Helgenberger, and Natasha Henstridge in her film debut role. The film’s plot concerns a motley crew of scientists and government agents who try to track down Sil (Henstridge), a seductive extraterrestrial-human hybrid, before she successfully mates with a human male. The movie’s commercial success spawned a franchise, which includes one theatrical sequel (Species II), as well as two direct-to-television sequels (Species III and Species: The Awakening). Species was adapted into a novel by Yvonne Navarro and two comic book series by Dark Horse Comics, one of which was written by Dennis Feldman.
Now, Dark Horse Comics presents, “Species”, Years ago, man sent a message into outer space. Recently, we received an answer. It was a genetic coding sequence that, when merged with human DNA, would produce a hybrid creature. The secret organization in charge of handling this project had a chance to decide whether the hybrid would be male or female. They chose female, with the idea that it would be tamer. Big mistake! The hybrid was named Sil and appeared for the all the world to be a human girl. It was only when they tried to end the project and kill her that she showed her alien nature and escaped. Shedding skins like a reptile, she now appears as a grown adult woman (with the occasional alien appendage). Sil has only two aims: to mate – and to kill anybody who gets in her way!
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, “Species”, When a governmental research group receives an electronic message from space, the U.S. becomes the first player in intergalactic communications. The second message carries with it an experimental genetic code intended to create the ultimate communications link: a hybrid life form utilizing human and alien DNA. The experiment succeeds, and the result is a seemingly normal twelve-year-old girl. But when she starts to change into something more than human, when she appears to be more a threat than a messenger, the U.S. government orders her termination. She quickly learns one of life’s little lessons: In a hostile environment, you can adapt… or you can die.
Next in issue #2, “The Chrysalis”, She was created by the U.S. government to facilitate extraterrestrial communications. A hybrid of human and alien DNA, she was meant to be a living link bridging two worlds across the cosmos. But what she is something far different, something the government scientists could have never predicted. And she is looking to communicate, but you don’t want to be on the receiving end.
Next in issue #3, “The Red Map”, For three million years, the human race has been the final rung on the evolutionary ladder. Nothing lasts forever… SIL, the U.S. government’s experimental human/alien-hybrid life form, searches for the perfect mate with whom to propagate her species — and ruthlessly murders anyone who stands in her way! Can Professor Fitch and his team of top scientists stop her terrifying mission before it’s too late?
Finally in issue #4, “‘The Offspring”, A hybrid of human and alien DNA, SIL is truly a stranger in a strange land. But she doesn’t intend to stay that way… SIL is looking for the ideal mate, a man to propagate her bizarre species. And she’s leaving a trail of bloodied, broken bodies behind her!
