Spectacular Spider-Man: Volume 2 – Countdown            Trade Paperback
Writer: Paul Jenkins
Artist: Humberto Ramos
Inker: Wayne Faucher
Colorist: Studio F
Letterers: Virtual Calligraphy, Randy Gentile & Cory Petit
Editors: Tom Brevoort, Jennifer Grünwald, John Miesegaes, Joe Quesada, Andy Schmidt, Marc Sumerak, Nicole Wiley & Jeff Youngquist
Cover by: Edgar Delgado, Wayne Faucher & Humberto Ramosludes

Essentially picking up where the “canceled” Peter Parker series left off, the new Spectacular Spider-Man brings back the familiar (not to mention popular) creative team of Jenkins and Ramos.

In Volume 2, Spidey’s arch-foe Doctor Octopus is sporting an updated new look and a new plan to ruin the wall-crawler’s life once and for all.  Doc Ock gives him an ultimatum: for the safe release of the Palestinian ambassador he’s holding hostage, Spider-Man must reveal his secret identity to the entire world! International intrigue and web-spinning action combine as Spider-Man’s newest movie menace ups the ante on their long-time rivalry.

Story/Spoilers
In part #1, Peter returns home from the Venom fiasco to find that his neighbors have invaded his apartment and are trying to help Flash snap out of his comatose state by playing video games with him. Mary Jane stops by for a visit. A modified and more powerful Doc Ock hunts Spider-Man down and gives him an ultimatum: unmask or else.

Next in part #2, Mary Jane and Peter try to figure out what to do about Ock’s latest threat. Otto returns to his boyhood home to reminisce. He then puts a plan into motion that will force Spider-Man to reveal his identity to the world.

Next in part #3, Doc Ock kidnaps the Palestinian Ambassador and threatens to kill him, bringing war to the world, if Spider-Man refuses to take off his mask by a designated time. Peter quickly tries to figure out what to do, but the clock is ticking.

Next in part #4, The chess pieces are moved into place as Spider-Man, Garrett and the Mossad agents try to figure out how to rescue the Palestinian Ambassador from Dr. Octopus without getting him killed and starting World War III. Spider-Man gives in to Ock’s demands and unmasks in front of the world.

Finally in part #5, The trap is sprung as Spider-Man’s unmasking reveals another mask, and his allies move in to rescue Ambassador Zarour. Spider-Man and Ock battle it out in a final showdown (at least until next time they meet).
