Star Trek is an American science fiction media franchise based on the television series created by Gene Roddenberry. The first television series, simply called Star Trek and now referred to as The Original Series, debuted in 1966 and aired for three seasons on the television network NBC. It followed the interstellar adventures of Captain James T Kirk (William Shatner) and his crew aboard the starship USS Enterprise, a space exploration vessel, built by the interstellar federal republic United Federation of Planets in the twenty-third century. These adventures continued in the short-lived Star Trek: The Animated Series and six feature films. Four spin-off television series were eventually produced: Star Trek: The Next Generation followed the crew of a new starship Enterprise set a century after the original series; Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager set contemporaneously with The Next Generation; and Star Trek: Enterprise set before the original series in the early days of human interstellar travel.
The Star Trek canon of the franchise includes The Original Series, an animated series, five spin-off television series, and its film franchise in addition to further adaptations made in several media since the original. Star Trek has been a global cult phenomenon for decades. Fans of the franchise are called Trekkies or Trekkers. The franchise spans a wide range of spin-offs including games, figurines, novels, toys, comics and so much more. Like Star Wars or the Planet of the Apes, Star Trek is widely considered one of the greatest sci-fi franchises of all time!
A Green Lantern is an officer of the intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps, who have the ability to overcome great fear with the might of willpower. They possess power rings capable of creating constructs characterized by their will and strength to use it. Each Green Lantern is given a Sector of the Universe to protect, and it is their priority to suppress any threat against their sector. With his ability to overcome great fear and harness the power of his will, test-pilot Hal Jordan was chosen to be the Green Lantern of Sector 2814 inheriting the ring of the dying alien Green Lantern, Abin Sur. Hal Jordan was chosen to be chosen to be Abin Sur’s successor in the Green Lantern Corps, the universe-wide peacekeeping force with over 3,600 members strong.
Now, IDW Publishing & DC Comics presents Star Trek / Green Lantern – The Spectrum War. Two iconic franchises collide for the blockbuster crossover event of 2015! The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise meets the Green Lantern Corps for the first time in an all-new adventure that spans the cosmos! Don’t miss the thrilling first chapter of The Spectrum War, as Kirk and Spock make a most unusual discovery on a lost world… igniting events that will change the fate of the Universe!
Story/Spoilers
In Issue #1, With the Green Lanterns and the remaining Guardians gone, Ganthet takes 6 different spectrum rings and flees the universe. Years later, in another universe, The Enterprise investigates a deserted planet where they find the body of Ganthet and the six rings. When examining the rings, Scotty inadvertently activates them, and the rings choose new hosts from among the Enterprise crew and the Klingons. At that moment, Hal Jordan suddenly appears.
Features issue #1 with Blank Sketch Cover.
Features issue #1 with Cover A by Gabriel Rodriguez.
Next in issue #2, While exploring a rogue planet in uncharted space, the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise discovered the skeleton of an unknown alien being in possession of six strange rings. Convinced the rings were energy conduits of some kind, Scotty exposed them to a tachyon field that activated their power and sent them scattering throughout the ship and beyond. Four rings – yellow, blue, violet and indigo – have chosen new bearers. Two – red and orange – have disappeared. Now, just as the Enterprise faces off with a Klingon Bird-of-Prey, a new ring-wielder arrives… bathed in Green Light.
Features issue #2 with Subscription Cover by Garry Brown & Doug Garbark.
Next in issue #3, On a remote dead world, the crew of the Enterprise discovers the skeleton of a visitor from another universe – Ganthet, last of the Guardians of OA – and six inert power rings. Lt. Montgomery Scott activates the rings inside a tachyon field, causing the rings to escape and chose new bearers… just as the Enterprise is confronted by Klingon General Chang aboard a Bird-of-Prey. At this critical moment, Green Lantern Hal Jordan arrives to find why Ganthet’s skeleton is onboard a ship he has never seen before, in a universe he doesn’t recognize.
Features issue #3 with Subscription Cover by Garry Brown & Doug Garbark.
Next in issue #4, Green Lantern Hal Jordan joined forces with Captain Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise to battle the Klingon General Chang, who now possesses a Yellow power ring. Chang’s use of the ring drew the attention of the Yellow Lantern Sinestro, who demands to know how Chang Acquired it…
Features issue #4 with Subscription Cover by Garry Brown & Doug Garbark.
Next in issue #5, A War of Light has erupted in Federation Space, with Hal Jordan and the U.S.S. Enterprise caught in the middle. Sinestro has subdued Captain Kirk and the Enterprise crew with the power of his yellow ring. Hal Jordan has assumed the captain’s chair in Kirk’s place, leading the fight against the ring-powered forces of the Klingons, the Romulans, and the Gorn. Light-years away the evil Nekron uses his dark powers to resurrect a dead world…
Features issue #5 with Cover A by David Williams & Charlie Kirchoff.
Finally in issue #6, One universe is dead. Another is dying. Nekron has resurrected the destroyed planet Vulcan and its inhabitants. With his unliving army he begins his march of death across the stars. Standing in his way: the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise and the last surviving members of the various Lantern Corps…
