Description

Star Trek: The Key Collection – Volume 5                              Trade Paperback
Featuring The Original Crew of the Starship Enterprise!  Awesome!!

To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before.
Star Trek is an American space opera media franchise based on the science fiction television series created by Gene Roddenberry. The first television series, simply called Star Trek and now referred to as “The Original Series”, debuted in 1966 and aired for three seasons on the television network NBC. It followed the interstellar adventures of Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and his crew aboard the starship USS Enterprise, a space exploration vessel, built by the United Federation of Planets in the twenty-third century. The Star Trek canon of the franchise includes The Original Series, an animated series, five spin-off television series, the film franchise, and further adaptations in several media.

Star Trek comics debuted in 1967, the year after, the original television series premiered, and continued on a somewhat irregular serial schedule until 1979 under Western Publishing’s Gold Key imprint. The comics feature the original crew of the starship Enterprise (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Sulu, Scotty, et all) in Star trek adventures which were too ambitious, and too large a visual scale to be produced as television. Eventually, sixty full-color issues would be published.

Now, Checker Publishing presents, Star Trek: The Key Collection Volume 5! Collecting the original full-color Star Trek comics (originally published by Gold Key Comics) collected in paperback at last! Star Trek comics debuted in 1967 – the same year as the original television series – and outlasted the TV version by 10 years. This compilation offers Star Treks fans original stories to enjoy, and also gives this well admired yet hard to find series new life in trade paperback form.

This Checker’s fifth collection includes original Gold Key issues from #34, 36, & 38-43, dating from 1975 to 1977. All the art is by Alden McWilliams, (with the exception of #34 & 36 by Albert Giolitti) and the stories are penned by Arnold Drake and members of Gold Key bullpen – a diverse group of old and pulp fiction hands that creatively brought in all new unique Trek adventures available nowhere else in Trekdom.
