Description
Star Trek: The Next Generation – The Modala Imperative Comics Lot
Featuring Captain Jean Luc Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise D!
Writer: Peter David
Artist: Pablo Marcos
Colorist: Tom McCraw
Letterer: Bob Pinaha
Editor: Robert Greenberger
All Covers by: Adam Hughes & Karl Story
Previously in Star Trek: The Modala Imperative, Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise travels to the planet Modala to investigate its peaceful manner of planetary government. A closer look, however, reveals a world under a disturbing totalitarian rule. Moreover, the Modalan government has been provided with weaponry of off-world manufacture – but how, and by whom? Captain Kirk and Ensign Chekov take it upon themselves to investigate…and the answers they uncover are both ugly…and terrifying.
Star Trek: The Modala Imperative continues 100 years later, in the Star Trek: The Next Generation mini-series following these 4 issues (see Star Trek The Modala Imperative (1991) #1-4).
100 years after the Enterprise inadvertently aided a revolution on the planet Modala, the former rebels-turned-administrators are planning on celebrating 100 years of freedom and want as many of the original Enterprise crew to celebrate with them. Ambassador Spock and Admiral McCoy return to the planet with the Enterprise-D crew, only to find an unpleasant answer to the century-old question “who supplied the alien weapons to the former tyrants of the planet?” Caught in another planetary revolution, McCoy and Spock deal with memories of the past, discontent with the present, and uncertainty for the future, only to be reminded the more things change the more they stay the same.
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, “In Memory Yet Green…”, Stardate 44375.7. The Enterprise is invited to represent the Federation at the 100th anniversary of Modala’s freedom. Captain Picard and his crew return to Modala for the centennial celebration of that event, going with the Enterprise to Modala is Admiral McCoy. En route they are joined by Admiral Spock. On Modala, social unrest accompanies the preparations for celebration. It seems that Captain Picard and his crew, accompanied by the aged Mr. Spock and Dr. McCoy – arrived just in time to meet up with the Ferengi!
Next in issue #2, “Lies and Legends”, Modala is overrun by Ferengi who claim that the planet is theirs – but Picard and Spock strongly disagree! After Picard, Troi, Spock and McCoy beam down, the Enterprise diverts to a distress call. Meanwhile, the Ferengi arrive to disrupt the celebration on Modala, claiming they own the planet, and the leaders must pay them.
Next in issue #3, “Prior Claim”, Trapped on Modala, Picard, Troi and the aged Spock and Dr. McCoy fight to prevent the Ferengi from enslaving the planet! The Enterprise figures out the Ferengi have tricked them and return to the planet. Meanwhile, the landing party members are taken captive.
Finally in issue #4, “Game, Set, and Match!”, The epic conclusion of this groundbreaking mini-series finds Picard, McCoy and Troi about to be killed by the Ferengi…and their only hope for survival is Spock! Spock helps Troi and McCoy escape while Picard challenges the Ferengi leader to a duel. Picard wins and the Ferengi leave.
