A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…
Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise centered on a film series created by George Lucas. The film series began with Star Wars, released on May 25, 1977. This was followed by two sequels: The Empire Strikes Back, released on May 21, 1980, and Return of the Jedi, released on May 25, 1983. Then more than two decades after the release of the original film, the series continued with a prequel trilogy; consisting of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, released on May 19, 1999; Episode II: Attack of the Clones, released on May 16, 2002; Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, released on May 19, 2005; and finally the epic saga concluded with Star Wars: The Force Awakens released on December 18, 2015; Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released on December 18, 2017. And Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released on December 20, 2019.
Introduced in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul, was a powerful villain trained as Darth Sidious’s first apprentice. He was ordered by Darth Sidious, the Master of the Dark Side of the Force, to capture Queen Padmé Amidala… and destroy the Jedi!
The Dark Horse Star Wars Darth Maul series integrates not only the two Star Wars filmed trilogies together, but also two eras in the Expanded Universe. The Black Sun criminal organization used in the story was first introduced in the novel, Shadows of the Empire, set between Episodes V and VI. An integral addition in the continuing development of the over-all Star Wars Universe from the Classic Trilogy, to the Prequel Trilogy and on into the Star Wars Expanded Universe.
Now… Six months prior to the events of Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace, Darth Sidious is already plotting his galactic conquests, and pits Darth Maul against two powerful organizations, the Trade Federation and the Black Sun criminal empire. Neither group seems able to stop Darth Maul, as he systematically destroys their installations. But he is only one man, despite his training and powers, they have legions of warriors to throw at him. But he will face his most powerful adversaries in single combat, including the mysterious Mighella, bodyguard to the Master Black Sun himself.
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, In hiding for generations, the Sith have waited for the precise moment to reveal themselves to the galaxy. Hoping to catch the Jedi unaware, Lord Sidious and his deadly apprentice, Darth Maul, have planned and waited patiently for their moment to pounce. Unfortunately, in the days before the Trade Federation blockade of the planet Naboo, Lord Sidious becomes aware of a threat to his plans. This threat comes from the deadly galactic crime organization Black Sun. But Sidious won’t stand for any opposition, and Darth Maul is sent to deal with Black Sun — as only a master of the dark side can!
Next in issue #2, The criminal organization Black Sun is feared across the galaxy. There is very little that their power and corruption do not influence. But now the tables are turned as the scheming Sith Lord, Darth Sidious, has sent his merciless enforcer, Darth Maul, to make sure that Black Sun stays out of his affairs. Gaining entrance to Black Sun, Maul works his way to the inner sanctum of the organization — and that’s when the destruction begins!
Next in issue #3, The ultimate enforcer, Darth Maul, continues his single-handed decimation of the ranks of the galactic crime syndicate Black Sun. As lieutenant after lieutenant falls under the swift blade of Maul’s cold wrath, Black Sun pulls itself together to discuss how to deal with this new theat. Aware of Black Sun’s plan, Maul shows up at Black Sun headquarters just as the in-fighting starts, and all hell breaks loose – Maul-style!
Finally in issue #4, With Sith Lord Darth Sidious’ master plan for the overthrow of the Republic in jeopardy, Sidious’ apprentice and enforcer Darth Maul has cut his way through the ranks of the galactic crime syndicate Black Sun, and now there is only one barrier left between Maul and Black Sun’s total destruction. Maul must go toe-to-toe with the personal bodyguards of Black Sun’s top lieutenants before he can reach the pinnacle of their organization! It’s Black Sun vs. dark side, and the winner takes all!
