A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…
Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise centered on a film series created by George Lucas. The film series began with Star Wars, released on May 25, 1977. This was followed by two sequels: The Empire Strikes Back, released on May 21, 1980, and Return of the Jedi, released on May 25, 1983. Then more than two decades after the release of the original film, the series continued with a prequel trilogy; consisting of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, released on May 19, 1999; Episode II: Attack of the Clones, released on May 16, 2002; Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, released on May 19, 2005; and finally the epic saga concluded with Star Wars: The Force Awakens released on December 18, 2015; Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released on December 18, 2017. And Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released on December 20, 2019.
Star Wars: Crimson Empire III – Empire Lost is the sequel to Star Wars: Crimson Empire and Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood. Kir Kanos, the last surviving member of Emperor Palpatine’s Royal Guard, is ready to settle a score with Luke Skywalker and those others whom he blames for the death of his Emperor. But standing in Kanos’s path is his former adversary and almost love interest Mirith Sinn. And both of them have become pawns in a secret plot by an Imperial cabal! And… as always… the impressive Star Wars cover paintings by Dave Dorman add to the epic excitement.
Now… a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… Crimson Empire III – Empire Lost! Approximately thirteen years after the Battle of Yavin… The Empire of Palpatine is in ruins. An attack by the combined forces of the New Republic and powerful warlord Baron D’Asta has shattered the Empire’s interim government, but there are still those who plot for the Empire’s return to glory. From the Royal Palace on Coruscant, the New Republic’s Chief of State, Leia Organa Solo, works to maintain the galaxy’s fragile peace, while her husband, Rebel hero Han Solo, oversees military operations whever more “aggressive negotiations” are required. The New Republic must stay strong and vigilant – for even the remotest regions of the galaxy may harbor enemies…
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, Star Wars: Crimson Empire, the story of the last Imperial Guardsman, returns after over a decade of anticipation! The reach of the New Republic is expanding, but the days of fighting for the galaxy have not ended. A threat against Princess Leia and Han Solo’s family disrupts usual business on Coruscant-and Luke Skywalker’s Jedi training on Yavin 4! In another part of the galaxy, a former Imperial Guardsman turned bounty hunter, Kir Kanos, is ready to settle an old score after three years in hiding-if a new adversary doesn’t kill him first!
After the death of Emperor Palpatine’s final surviving clone body, Kir Kanos, the last of the Imperial Guards, swore revenge on all who had a hand in his master’s demise. The first to die was a traitorous fellow Imperial Guard – Carnor Jax – who had designs on becoming the next emperor. Kano’s next targets were the members of an interim Imperial Council, led by another pretender to the throne, Xandel Carivus. Unbeknown to anyone, Carivus was being assisted and manipulated by the mysterious Nom Anor – a vanguard of the still-distant Yuuzhan Vong Invasion fleet. With the help of New Republic agent Mirith Sinn, with whom he shares an uneasy mutual attraction, Kanos was able to enlist the aid of Imperial Baron D’Asta in destroying the Council. D’Asta withdrew from the remnant Empire, and Kanos and Sinn parted ways – knowing that they would meet again when Kanos would complete his vendetta by targeting Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa Solo…
Next in issue #2, Kir Kanos, the last surviving member of Emperor Palpatine’s Royal Guards, has been ‘invited’ to join a cadre of Imperial officers intent on returning the Empire to its former glory. Meanwhile, the rising New Republic comes under fire when assassins put Kanos’s adversary (and occasional romantic interest) Mirith Sinn in the crosshairs!
The New Republic’s power and influence grow as Palpatine’s Empire crumbles. Chief of State Leia Organa Solo oversees the government’s business on Coruscant, while her husband, Han Solo, leads the offensive against Imperial forces. Mirith Sinn has reluctantly accepted the position of Security Chief and is charged with ensuring the safety of Leia and her children. But Leia has a growing sense of anxiety over the well-being of her family, and Sinn has concerns about the return of Kir Kanos, Palpatine’s last surviving Royal Guard. Unbeknownst to Sinn, Kano has been captured by bounty hunter Boba Fett and ferried to a mysterious outpost in a remote section of the galaxy. Elsewhere, a seemingly unrelated theft is taking place…
Next in issue #3, Kir Kanos strikes back at the Empire! Kidnapped and dragooned into a hard-liner Imperial plot, Kir Kanos, the last surviving member of Emperor Palpatine’s royal guard, has had enough! He goes to war with one Imperial faction, even as Leia Organa Solo receives an invitation to meet with emissaries from another. Treachery layered on treachery is revealed and Kanos answers it the only way he knows how-with violence!
The void left by Palpatine’s collapsing Empire is rife with treachery. Not even New Republic Chief of State Leia Organa Solo and her children are out of reach, as they barely survive an attack on Coruscant. A conflicted Mirith Sinn validates Organa’s faith in her by risking her own life to thwart the assassins. Elsewhere, Feena D’Asta meets with Imperial leader Admiral Pellaeon. She brings a surprising suggestion from her father that could end hostilities with the New Republic. Kir Kanos, taken against his will to a secret base teeming with obsolete ships and a large military force, attends a gathering of Imperial officers who are opposed to the direction Pellaeon would take the Empire. Meanwhile, General Han Solo puts the finishing touches on an impressive victory…
Next in issue #4, Escaping from the Imperial hardliners who are intent on killing Leia Organa Solo and bringing the New Republic to its knees, Kir Kanos tries to warn his one-time enemies, only to be thrown into a New Republic prison. Mirith Sinn is the only one willing to trust Kanos, but neither of them is aware of the extent of the Imperials’ plans. It’s not until Luke Skywalker plays a hunch that the true danger is revealed!
The war between the Empire and the New Republic drags on. Even as Imperial leader Admiral Pellaeon hints at the possiblity of peace, treachery threatens to undermine his efforts. Kir Kanos, the last surviving member of Emperor Palpatine’s Royal Guard, has learned of Admiral Devian’s plan to kill thousands of innocents on Coruscant. Kir makes a daring escape… an escape that seems to come much to easily. On Coruscant, Chief of State Leia Organa Solo is faced with a difficult decision regarding her Chief of Security, Mirith Sinn: should she secretly send Mirith to meet with Feena D’Asta to discuss a new peace treaty? Leia’s brother, Luke Skywalker, thinks not, while her husband, Han Solo, is far away, completing a long mission…
Next in issue #5, Kir Kanos, the last surviving member of the Emperor’s Royal Guard, finds himself teamed with his former enemy Mirith Sinn on a mission for the New Republic. But their secret parley with an Imperial representative becomes an ambush from which some will not return! Meanwhile, the Imperial hardliners reveal their true target!
A group of Imperial hardliners, led by the cruel commander known as Devian, attempted to recruit Kir Kanos, the last of Emperor Palpatine’s royal guards, to their cause: overthrow current Imperial leader Admiral Pellaeon and destroy the New Republic. Learning that Devian’s plan included the murder of millions of civiians on Coruscant, Kanos escaped to Coruscant with warning for Chief of State Leia Organa Solo. There Kanos was reunited with his old friend and adversary, Mirith Sinn. Leia chose them both for a mission to meet with Pellaeons representatives. But Sinn and Kanos had barely departed when Luke Skywalker discovered that the ship in which Kanos arrived contained a bomb designed to poison much of the planet. Luke flew the ship into space near Coruscant , and Leia could only watch in horror as the ship exploded!
Finally, in issue #6, It’s the final showdown between Admiral Pellaeon’s Imperial forces and those of his hardliner adversaries, with the New Republic joining in the fray! The outcome could mean peace-or extended war for the galaxy. But will either alternative matter for the last surviving member of Emperor Palpatine’s Royal Guard? Kir Kanos is a man on the edge-a man without a past, and only questions for the future!
A chance for peace between the New Republic and the Empire was destroyed when Feena D’Asta, the representative of Imperial leader Admiral Pellaeon, was killed by attacking stormtroopers. Even as word of D’Asta’s death reached Pellaeon, New Republic representative Mirith Sinn and former Royal Guard Kir Kanos met with Feena’s father, the powerful Baron D’Asta, warning him that the attack was staged by Commander Devian and his cabal of Imperial hardliners to break up the Baron’s friendship with Pellaeon, and to trick the Admiral into believing the New Republic was responsible for the attack. Pellaeon ordered his fleet to attack Coruscant, leaving his new base on Orinda virtually defenseless – making it the perfect target for Devian’s own fleet of resurrected Clone Wars – era warships…
