Dark Horse Comics presents a tale featuring the villain from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith… General Grievous!
Now… a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… Star Wars: General Grievous! On a rescue mission to Vandos, Padawan Flynn Kybo and his master T’chooka D’oon come face to face with one of the leaders of the Separatist army, General Grievous. After Grievous kills his master, Kybo goes to the Jedi Council with a plan to take out the general before more lives are lost. But when the council rejects his plan, Flynn Kybo decides to take matters in his own hands. Seeking out others who share his feelings, Flynn Kybo sets out to put an end to the cyborg killer. Meanwhile, Grievous has hijacked a transport ship—and its precious cargo may give him an advantage over the Jedi that they would never expect…
Story/Spoilers
In part #1, On a mission to Vandos to rescue Ambassador Quiyyen, Flynn Kybo and his Jedi Master T’chooka D’oon are confronted by General Grievous and a battalion of B2 super battle droids. The Jedi and their clone forces battle through the droids and rescue Quiyyen, but T’chooka is killed by Grievous in the process. Flynn goes to the Jedi Council and proposes that a Jedi strike team target Grievous and kill him. Master Yoda turns down the idea, calling it mere murder, beneath the honor of the Jedi. Instead, he sends Flynn out to meet his new Jedi Master, Z’meer Bothu. They go outside for “silent contemplation,” but Flynn isn’t sure what he’s supposed to contemplate upon. He tries to ask Z’meer, but alas, she is in deep meditation. Flynn is approached by B’dard Tone and his Padawan, Codi Ty. He agrees with Flynn’s proposed course of action, having been horrifically injured by Grievous at Nadiem. The two agree to meet at the cantina on Bryndar. As B’dard and Codi leave, Z’meer, who has been listening to the entire conversation, tells Flynn that he may do as he pleases, but that he will “never be offered a place among the Jedi again.” Meanwhile, General Grievous and several battle droids take over a Mon Calamari ship, killing all aboard. Grievous confronts an Abyssin Jedi, and orders his droids to kill him. On an Acclamator-class assault ship near Alderaan, Master Ph’ton briefs several Jedi on their next mission: to accompany a fleet of cargo ships to Alderaan, in their starfighters, ensuring they don’t get attacked by the Trade Federation. Flynn Kybo, who is among the assembly, heads to Docking Bay Nine and steals a Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor, flying it to Bryndar. He meets with Master Tone and Codi there, and they begin planning their attack on Grievous. General Grievous himself continues scouting the Calamari ship, and soon gets a report from a B1 battle droid, informing him of more lifeforms aboard. The droid leads Grievous to a dark closet, which is filled with younglings…. He withdraws and activates his lightsabers…
Next in part #2, General Grievous leads an assault on Gentes in the Anoat system, with several B1 battle droids behind him. Within minutes, Grievous destroys the Administration Hub, disabling the planet’s defenses, and takes the entire Ugnaught population prisoner. Meanwhile, a man named Stellskard seeks out Flynn Kybo, who is meditating in a field somewhere. He asks him about the search for General Grievous he’s conducting, and says he can give him “people who harbor more hatred for Grievous than you can imagine.” Back on Gentes, Grievous discusses with Lushros Dofine and two Geonosians what to do with the Ugnaughts. Grievous suggests putting them to work in the battle droid factories, but Lushros claims the Geonosians prefer to have droids build droids. Elsewhere, three younglings taken captive during Grievous’s raid on a Mon Calamari ship; a Nautolan and two Humans named Banz and Allara; are escorted off their transport and onto Gentes. On Bryndar, Flynn Kybo introduces Stellskard to B’dard Tone, who doesn’t seem to trust him very much. B’dard says they came there to find those who hated the Confederacy, but no one’s stepped forward to help them. Flynn asks where they might go to find such people, and Stellskard leads them in the Cohasset Rover to his home of Banvhar Station, an asteroid mining colony that has been struck hard by the Trade Federation in the past. Meanwhile, General Grievous speaks to Count Dooku on Gentes via hologram. Dooku tells Grievous to turn the captive Padawans from the Mon Calamari ship over to the Sith, but Grievous asks to keep them out of curiosity. Dooku agrees to let him hold them, if only for a while. At Banvhar Station, a local named Rini picks up a Separatist subspace chatter code on his computer, and assures Flynn Kybo that he can break it, if given a year or so. Flynn, understandably not that patient, brings in an astromech droid, CB-3D, to assist. CB plugs himself in to the machine, and tells Flynn of Padawans and the Sith, and that one of the participants in the conversation is General Grievous. Grievous suggests to Count Dooku that he may be able to interweave the Dark Side potential in these Padawans with the Geonosian technology, as he was himself. Dooku shows interest in this experiment, and signs off. Rini traces the transmission to the Anoat system in the Ison Corridor, and unveils one of three Trade Federation probe droids left over from Banvhar Station’s battle with the Federation to help them track Grievous. B’dard doesn’t seem thrilled with the idea, but Flynn assures him that CB-3D will wipe their memory, to ensure they don’t betray them. Rini sends the probe droids out to do their duty. On Gentes, General Grievous speaks to the group of six Padawans, and indirectly begins talking them into joining the Sith. Allara sees through the guise however, and Force grabs one of the General’s many lightsabers, and kills all three of the B-1 battle droids watching them before Grievous grabs her by the wrist and decides to show her a demonstration of his power. He points to an assembly hall in the distance, in which the entire Ugnaught population of the city stands, and orders his droids via comlink to fire. Within moments, a blast comes down from the sky, utterly obliterating the assembly hall and all of its occupants.
Next in part #3, At Banvhar Station, Rini reports that their Trade Federation probe droids have found General Grievous on the moon Belsus in the Anoat system, and that lifeform readings are very low there. The probe droids fly towards Grievous, as Flynn Kybo heads back to the Cohasset Rover, determined to confront Grievous himself. On Belsus, the General speaks with a Neimoidian from the Trade Federation, who is pleased with the Ugnaughts’ work in retooling the Geonosian droid factories. All of a sudden, the probe droids attack Grievous and quickly dispatch his B1 entourage. Grievous is able to destroy them nearly just as quickly. Grievous suspects the Federation or Dooku has betrayed him, and ensures the Neimoidian that he will die if the former is the case. Deep under the ground of Belsus, Banz, Allara and the other Padawans are hard at work trying to open their prison door with the Force. They aren’t having much luck, when suddenly an Ugnaught busts his way through the ground and tells them to come with him. Back on Banvhar Station, Rini informs Flynn that he was right not to be confident in the probots, for they were easily destroyed by Grievous. Flynn is concerned that all they’ve accomplished is alert Grievous to their interest in him. B’dard Tone arrives with the entire miner population of Banvhar Station (and CB-3D), all of them ready to attack Grievous on Belsus. Meanwhile, Commander Vulpus of the CIS arrives on Belsus in a blue and purple Ginivex-class starfighter. General Grievous welcomes him and asks him the reason for the visit. Vulpus assures the General that he is but an observer. Grievous leads him into the factories on Belsus, more specifically the droid skeleton being made for one lucky Padawan, one very similar to his own. Grievous then takes the Commander to the Padawans’ cell….which contains nothing but a gaping hole in the floor. As the Padawans follow the Ugnaught through his tunnel in the ground, Allara senses that they are being trailed themselves. Indeed, as a squad of battle droids have entered the tunnel and discovered the young Jedi with little difficulty. The General orders them to kill them, but the tunnel collapses under the droids, allowing the Padawans to escape once more. Commander Vulpus says he must inform Count Dooku, but Grievous stops him with a lightsaber mere centimeters from his throat. Vulpus reminds Grievous that if he were to kill him, the repercussions of such an act would kill himself as well. Grievous reluctantly sheaths his lightsaber, and Vulpus decides not to tell Dooku of what just happened. Over Belsus, the Cohasset is piloted by the torsos of two B-1 battle droids, being remotely controlled out of view by Rini. He transmits the necessary codes, and begins docking on Belsus. Rini suddenly picks up comm chatter from Belsus about Padawans; Flynn becomes nervous, but Rini specifies that there are Padawans on Belsus, hostages of General Grievous, that have escaped. Those very Padawans arrive at an Ugnaught homestead, hidden away from most of the moon. Grievous suddenly arrives through the tunnel with lightsabers blazing, promising to kill all of them…
Finally in part #4, Flynn Kybo and his fellow Jedi invade General Grievous’ stronghold on an occupied Ugnaught world while the general deals with the mass escape of his Padawan hostages. This is the action-packed climax to this tale of unspeakable evil and calculated revenge. This is the big backstory for the latest addition to the Star Wars rogues’ gallery!
