A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…
Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise centered on a film series created by George Lucas. The film series began with Star Wars, released on May 25, 1977. This was followed by two sequels: The Empire Strikes Back, released on May 21, 1980, and Return of the Jedi, released on May 25, 1983. Then more than two decades after the release of the original film, the series continued with a prequel trilogy; consisting of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, released on May 19, 1999; Episode II: Attack of the Clones, released on May 16, 2002; Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, released on May 19, 2005; and finally the epic saga concluded with Star Wars: The Force Awakens released on December 18, 2015; Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released on December 18, 2017. And Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released on December 20, 2019.
In 1998, Dark Horse Comics presented their first Star Wars series. Different Star Wars story arcs were featured using sub-series with-in the series. Various characters, places, and events are further chronicled in the Star Wars Universe… beginning with the 1st sub-series featuring a Jedi Knight, Ki-Adi-Mundi story as told by writer Jan Strnad and artist Anthony Winn. Ki-Adi-Mundi faces accusations of a murder he did not commit, stunned by the loss of a dear friend, and uncertain of how to deal with a rebellious teenage daughter; but with glimpses of his Jedi training years before by the master Yoda, Ki-Adi-Mundi shows what a true Jedi is made of…
Now… a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… Prelude to Rebellion! Ki-Adi-Mundi is a Jedi Knight of formidable strength and influence. On his homeworld of Cerea, most of the planet’s citizens are happy to continue their low-tech lives of simplicity, isolated from the Republic, but a growing voice calls for the advanced technologies brought by offworlders. When Ki becomes a strong voice of opposition for such development, he is falsely charged with murder and is swiftly drawn into a web of conspiracy and intrigue that could rock the galaxy to its foundations – a web that may have the vile crime lord Jabba the Hutt and the powerful Trade Federation at its center, setting the stage for Episode I -The Phantom Menace!
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, Ki-Adi-Mundi is a Jedi Knight of formidable power and influence, but not on his own homeworld of Cerea. Most of the planet’s citizens are happy to continue their low-tech lives of simplicity, isolated from the Republic, but a new generation of Cereans crave speeder bikes and starships, and are prepared to fight their elders for them! How can a Jedi take up arms against his own children?
Next in issue #2, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Jedi Knight of the planet Cerea, has been charged with murder, and only the high technology of the Republic can exonerate him. But this isn’t the most brutal irony: Ki’s own teenage daughter is an accessory to the murder! Sinister forces are gathering around Cerea, but what could they possibly want with a remote, low-tech farm world?
Next in issue #3, As Ki-Adi-Mundi gets closer to the truth of who is seeking to destabilize his homeworld, and why, he comes closer and closer to his own doom, and only the dimly remembered teachings of his diminutive Jedi Master can save him!
Next in issue #4, Sylvn and the fugitives have taken flight from Cerea, but their starship’s cargo hold is fit to burst with a load of unstoppable alien beasts. Action was what the youngsters hoped to find in the spacelanes beyond their provincial homeworld, but now they have more than they bargained for, and a trial back home to face the consequences of their actions is beginning to sound downright cozy!
Next in issue #5, High above the desert sands of Tatooine, a battle of life and death is taking place! On a freighter loaded with bloodthirsty beasts, lone Jedi Ki-Adi-Mundi must fight his way to his daughter, trapped in a malfunctioning escape pod with the merciless – but just as helpless – criminal Ephant Mon. Only Ki can save them, but the only way to save them may be to let Ephant Mon escape… with Ki’s daughter!
Finally, in issue #6, As Ki races to save his daughter from the clutches of the vile gangster Jabba the Hutt, he inadvertently discovers that the Hutt crime lord is secretly procuring munitions for a war fleet massing in orbit above Tatooine. Suddenly, Ki’s problems on his homeworld of Cerea seem very small indeed!
