A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…
Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise centered on a film series created by George Lucas. The film series began with Star Wars, released on May 25, 1977. This was followed by two sequels: The Empire Strikes Back, released on May 21, 1980, and Return of the Jedi, released on May 25, 1983. Then more than two decades after the release of the original film, the series continued with a prequel trilogy; consisting of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, released on May 19, 1999; Episode II: Attack of the Clones, released on May 16, 2002; Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, released on May 19, 2005; and finally the epic saga concluded with Star Wars: The Force Awakens released on December 18, 2015; Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released on December 18, 2017. And Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released on December 20, 2019.
Marvel Comics proudly presents Star Wars: Return of the Jedi – Max Rebo, The Max Rebo Band. A one-shot canon comic in the Star Wars: Return of the Jedi series. WHO IS PLOTTING TO KILL JABBA THE HUTT? Wait…someone ELSE is plotting to kill one of the galaxy’s most infamous gangsters? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! When you’re JABBA THE HUTT, you make a lot of enemies…and sometimes, they’re even under your employ! MAX REBO and the band have their own plans on how to deal with a mobster like Jabba… This issue bookends our JABBA’S PALACE one-shot and leads directly into the RETURN OF THE JEDI film!
Now… a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… Star Wars: Return of the Jedi – Max Rebo, The Max Rebo Band. With the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire locked in a civil war for control of the galaxy, criminals, scoundrels, and gangsters find new ways to profit from the chaos. Chief among these is the crime lord JABBA THE HUTT, who rules over a criminal empire based on the Outer Rim planet of TATOOINE. From his palace, Jabba commands his organization of thugs, thieves and bounty hunters by appealing to their greed – and taking advantage of their fear…
Story/Spoilers:
“The Max Rebo Band”, Taking place during the events from the film, Return of the Jedi, specifically… the rescue of Han Solo from Jabba’s Palace. Max Rebo, noticeably recognizing that his life choices have brought him to a terrifying place, reflects on what led him to this den of infamy. Haunted by a fellow musician who met an unfortunate end, Max recalls his line “Music – it’s worth dying for.” After witnessing the death and violence we all saw at the start of Return of the Jedi, Rebo decides to act, targeting Jabba himself. Little does he know a series of events would interrupt his deed…
