A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…
Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise centered on a film series created by George Lucas. The film series began with Star Wars, released on May 25, 1977. This was followed by two sequels: The Empire Strikes Back, released on May 21, 1980, and Return of the Jedi, released on May 25, 1983. Then more than two decades after the release of the original film, the series continued with a prequel trilogy; consisting of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, released on May 19, 1999; Episode II: Attack of the Clones, released on May 16, 2002; Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, released on May 19, 2005; and finally the epic saga concluded with Star Wars: The Force Awakens released on December 18, 2015; Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released on December 18, 2017. And Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released on December 20, 2019.
Dark Horse Comics concludes its comic adaptation to Star Wars: The Last Command, the third book in a trilogy of novels known as Star Wars: The Thrawn Trilogy, all written by Timothy Zahn. The Last Command is part of the Star Wars expanded universe, and takes place five years after the events of Return of the Jedi. The Rebel Alliance has destroyed the Death Star, defeated Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, and driven out the remnants of the old Imperial Starfleet to a distant corner of the galaxy. Princess Leia and Han Solo are married and expecting twins. Luke Skywalker has become the first in a long-awaited new line of Jedi Knights. While, thousands of light years away, Grand Admiral Thrawn, the last of the Emperor’s Warlords, has taken command of the shattered Imperial Fleet, readied it for war, and pointed it at the fragile heart of the New Republic. Thrawn, using a Dark Jedi, is succeeding in restoring the Empire’s rightful rule of the Galaxy.
Now… a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… Star Wars: The Last Command! The struggle for power over the galaxy continues in the wake of the Emperor’s death. With the help of Jedi Master C’Baoth, Admiral Thrawn has seized control of the fabled Katana Fleet. The balance of power has been tipped against the New Republic. Infighting between the Republican councilors has ceased as aggressions are turned toward a common foe — Admiral Thrawn. In addition to the Katana Fleet, it has been discovered that Thrawn is now in control of new cloning technology. With an unlimited supply of clones, the Empire’s ranks will grow to enormous proportions and become more of a threat than ever before. Having escaped the clutches of Jedi Master C’Baoth, Luke Skywalker goes in search of the cloning cylinders which are swelling the ranks of Thrawn’s army. Despite having lost Skywalker, Master C’Baoth continues to pursue Luke’s sister — Leia Organa Solo. Once in control of Leia and her unborn children, C’Baoth believes he will become the undisputed master of the Empire. Thrawn, however, has different plans for C’Baoth…
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, Beginning the epic adaptation of Timothy Zahn’s best-selling novel The Last Command, in which Grand Admiral Thrawn creates an army of clones for the Empire and Leia gives birth to twins, Jacen and Jaina Solo, destined to become powerful Jedi.
Next in issue #2, When Imperials, disguised as security personnel, break into the palace and try to snatch Jacen and Jaina Solo, they’re forced to deal with the likes of Mara and Han; but who’s side is Mara really on?
Next in issue #3, Approaching the midpoint of the climactic story in Timothy Zahn’s exciting Thrawn series, all the story lines are moving toward a convergence: the scheming smugglers, Mara Jade’s mysterious past, Grand Admiral Thrawn’s plans for using clones to help defeat the New Republic, and Leia’s growing concern for the protection of her newborn twins.
Next in issue #4, Imperials attack Talon Karrde’s “secret” smugglers’ meeting, and they vow revenge. Meanwhile, Luke and Lando break Mara Jade free from house arrest in the Palace, so she can guide them to the Emperor’s secret cloning facility on Wayland. Will she really help the Republic? And what invisible force is Thrawn launching above the skies of Coruscant?
Next in issue #5, We’re getting closer to a final resolution in the standoff between Grand Admiral Thrawn’s forces and the heroes of the New Republic. Feints and counter-feints abound as Thrawn attempts to outguess the New Republic’s Bilbringi attack strategy. Meanwhile, Jedi Master C’baoth is confident that he will end up the biggest winner in this battle.
Finally in issue #6, Grand Admiral Thrawn sets his trap for the New Republic as they arrive through hyperspace to the Bilbringi Shipyards. Meanwhile, Luke and Mara Jade confront Jedi Master C’baoth in his hidden prison chambers inside Mt. Tantiss. C’baoth has a surprise waiting for Luke, and as Luke faces himself, the true battle of the Force begins.
