A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…
Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise centered on a film series created by George Lucas. The film series began with Star Wars, released on May 25, 1977. This was followed by two sequels: The Empire Strikes Back, released on May 21, 1980, and Return of the Jedi, released on May 25, 1983. Then more than two decades after the release of the original film, the series continued with a prequel trilogy; consisting of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, released on May 19, 1999; Episode II: Attack of the Clones, released on May 16, 2002; Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, released on May 19, 2005; and finally the epic saga concluded with Star Wars: The Force Awakens released on December 18, 2015; Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released on December 18, 2017. And Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released on December 20, 2019.
Dark Horse Comics presents Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron… The Continuing Adventures of Wedge Antilles. Different Star Wars story arcs were featured using sub-series with-in the series. Various characters, places, and events are further chronicled in the Star Wars Universe… and on to the next sub-series, “Battleground: Tatooine” featuring The Rogue Squadron.
Now… a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron – Battleground: Tatooine! The Rogue Squadron must travel to Tatooine to reconnoiter the place and hopefully find a hidden Imperial super-ship and weapons cache. Unfortunately, a Twi’lek who’s been conspiring with Bib Fortuna’s brain has found out about these too, and is also after this prize, knowing that if he finds it he’ll be the ultimate power on Tatooine. When he goes rabbit, taking with him the location of the stuff, the Rogue Squadron must follow him to Ryloth, where, you guessed it, the Imperials are also headed trying to get the information. They also meet with Huff Darklighter, the father of former member Biggs… and a member gets fired.
Story/Spoilers
In issue #9, “Chapter 1”, The crime and death caused by Jabba the Hutt is nothing compared to the chaos created in the wake of his demise! Jabba’s legacy is a cache of stolen Imperial hardware and weapons, hidden somewhere on the desert world of Tatooine. Whoever finds the treasure will have enough firepower to rule the planet – perhaps even the sector! And that means Rogue Squadron must find it first, or else find it aimed at their heads!
Next in issue #10, “Chapter 2”, A criminal warlord has stolen a vital bit of information, so vital, in fact, that Wedge and the Rogue Squadron were going to steal it themselves! Rather than simply steal it, they’ll now have to fight for it! Through the heated deserts of Tatooine, in the midst of a gang war sparked by the death of Jabba the Hutt, the Rogue Squadron risk life and limb for the Rebel Alliance!
Next in issue #11, “Chapter 3”, Jabba the Hutt is dead, and in the ensuing scramble for power, a secret Imperial weapons cache could be the key to victory. But only one being alive knows the location of the hidden weapons cache – Firith Olan. While that makes Firith a very powerful being, it also makes him a prime target. In a desperate race to uncover the missing weapons, as the criminals converge to fill the role of the dead Hutt, Wedge and Rogue Squadron find themselves smack in the middle of Battleground: Tatooine!
Finally in issue #12, “Chapter 4”, A handful of Tatooine outlaws and a mountain full of Imperial weaponry are a deadly combination – deadly enough to make allies of X-wing Rogue Squadron and a troop of Imperial Special Forces! The hot desert sands really heat up in the explosive conclusion to Battleground: Tatooine, as Wedge and crew attempt to take back the galaxy, one planet at a time!
