A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…
Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise centered on a film series created by George Lucas. The film series began with Star Wars, released on May 25, 1977. This was followed by two sequels: The Empire Strikes Back, released on May 21, 1980, and Return of the Jedi, released on May 25, 1983. Then more than two decades after the release of the original film, the series continued with a prequel trilogy; consisting of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, released on May 19, 1999; Episode II: Attack of the Clones, released on May 16, 2002; Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, released on May 19, 2005; and finally the epic saga concluded with Star Wars: The Force Awakens released on December 18, 2015; Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released on December 18, 2017. And Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released on December 20, 2019.
Dark Horse Comics presents Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron… The Continuing Adventures of Wedge Antilles. Different Star Wars story arcs were featured using sub-series with-in the series. Various characters, places, and events are further chronicled in the Star Wars Universe… concluding with the last sub-series, “Mandatory Retirement” featuring X-Wing pilot, Wedge Antilles.
Now… a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… “Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron – Mandatory Retirement”. When Imperial Intelligence chief Ysanne Isard discovers that acting-Emperor Pestage has cut a secret deal with the Rebel Alliance to sell out the Empire, it appears that the Rebels’ ticket to Imperial Center has been punched. But when Pestage is captured in his sanctuary on a far world, Rogue Squadron is assigned to go after him. If the New Republic wants to claim Imperial Center and turn the tide of war, it is imperative that they rescue Pestage, now wanted by the Empire for high treason. Unfortunately, Isard is also going after Pestage – with a brace of Star Destroyers and her own designs on the Imperial throne! Mandatory Retirement is the thrilling conclusion to the epic “Rise of Isard” story arc and a key link in the Star Wars mythos!
Story/Spoilers
In issue #32, “Chapter 1”, When Imperial Intelligence chief Ysanne Isard discovers that acting-Emperor Pestage has made a deal with the Rebel Alliance, it appears that the Rebels’ ticket to Imperial Center has been punched. But a Rebel operative witnesses Pestage’s capture, and Rogue Squadron is assigned to go after him.
Next in issue #33, “Chapter 2”, Their rest and relaxation over, Rogue Squadron and a Rebel task force descend on the world where Sate Pestage, one-time Emperor-proxy, has gone into exile. If the New Republic wants to claim Imperial Center for themselves and turn the tide of the war, it is imperative that they rescue Pestage, wanted by the Empire for high treason.
Next in issue #34, “Chapter 3”, The Rogues stage a dangerous rescue of Sate Pestage. Now is their chance to undermine Ysanne Isard, who has her own designs on the Imperial throne. But a power struggle in the Empire’s highest circles has Isard cornered, and that’s when the Imperial Intelligence Chief is most dangerous!
Finally in issue #34, “Chapter 4”, As Rogue Squadron prepares for a nightmare showdown against Imperial fighters and ground troops, Isard begins her own personal war in the corridors of power on Imperial Center… a war fought with hidden bombs, double-crossing servants, and knives in the back!
