Starship Troopers is a 1997 American military science fiction action film directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Edward Neumeier based on the novel by Robert A. Heinlein. Originally based on a 1959 novel by Robert Heinlein, the ongoing saga of the Starship Troopers has been expanded on and adapted in several formats, including several movies, both live-action and animated TV shows, video games, and, of course, several comic books.

This one-shot title serves as the prologue to a Dark Horse series based on Robert Heinlein’s 1959 novel and the 1997 TriStar Pictures movie, Starship Troopers. In this series, Jean Rasczak is a starship trooper who lost his arm in combat with marauding alien bugs. Now retired from duty, he is a teacher of moral philosophy. When he is sent to Dantana, a rebel colony planet, the bugs unexpectedly attack. Rasczak and his student, Kurt Allen, take on the bugs in full gear and with guns, and end up the only survivors. Together, they swear to fight and destroy the bugs.

Story/Spoilers
Jean Rasczak traveled to the distant planet Dantana to teach a course on History and Moral Philosophy – but it’s the invading arachnid aliens that learn the lesson. Rasczak leads the civilians against a surprise attack, and it’s up to the uninitiated crew to protect Port Joe Smith until the Mobile Infantry can arrive!
