Description
Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan – The Lost Adventure Trade Paperback Lot
Adapted and expanded by: Joe R. Lansdale
Written by: Edgar Rice Burroughs
Artists: Thomas Yeates, Charles Vess, Gary Gianni & Michael W. Kaluta
Editor: Peet Janes
All Covers by: Arthur Suydam
Nearly fifty years ago, Edgar Rice Burroughs’ final Tarzan manuscript was locked in a vault, unfinished, never to be read by anyone outside the family. It became the stuff of legend. Now, half a century later, Dark Horse Comics is proud to present Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan: The Lost Adventure. In this never-before-printed novel (serialized over four books).
In honor of Burroughs’ first Tarzan stories, this, long-lost masterpiece is presented in the same format in which the very first Tarzan story saw print: As a pulp! This four-book series interweaves the text, as faithfully revised and completed by Joe R. Lansdale, with detailed black-and-white illustrations. Thomas Yeates has provided the artwork for this first book, while Charles Vess, Gary Gianni, and Michael W. Kaluta are respectively slated to illustrate books 2-4, each to be housed under a gorgeous painted cover by Arthur Suydam.
Story/Spoilers
In book #1, Tarzan guides an explorer and his beautiful daughter to a remote, mythical African city, and contends with an outlaw safari which hopes to reach the same destination… first. Tarzan’s battles with jungle beasts and a brutal sequence in a tribal village are vintage Burroughs at his best! A scientist searches for a lost city that may hold clues about early man, but a crew of outlaws are on the same path, and they smell gold!
Featuring “Tarzan” illustrations by Thomas Yeates. Awesome!!
Next in book #2, Tarzan has been left behind by the outlaw safari, tied to a tree, and left to face the fury of Gorgo the buffalo. Resigned to his fate, Tarzan fails to see the lithe, stalking form of his friend, Jad-bal-ja, the golden lion… Tarzan goes after his captors and would-be murders, but he may have trouble reaching them before the ruthless criminals find the Hanson expedition, for not only is Tarzan saddled with the care of a hopelessly lost city-goer, but Usha the wind has arrived, and the whole jungle will cower under the mighty cyclone!
Featuring “Tarzan” illustrations by Charles Vess. Awesome!!
Next in book #3, Tarzan leads the Hanson expedition onward to the lost city of Ur, but a safari of desperate outlaws is hot on their heels and they’re not there to take pictures! Jean Hanson is taken to the lost city of Ur, where she finds that beneath the patina of gold there lies barbarism, bourns of the worship of a monstrous being. Meanwhile, Hunt, trapped in a maze of underground caverns, feels the gaze of a silent stalker, and while Tarzan manages to unite the other members of the Hanson expedition, he cannot save one man from the clutching hand of death!
Featuring “Tarzan” illustrations by Gary Gianni. Awesome!!
Finally in book #4, It’s the final confrontation between a dangerously determined group of outlaws and the king of the jungle… a titan clash of wills that resounds through the jungle. The prize is not only a lost city of gold, but life itself! In the explosive conclusion to Edgar Rice Burroughs’ lost masterpiece, while the Hanson expedition overcomes the vicious band of outlaws, Tarzan finds himself captive in the city of Ur! He’s destined for the blood-soaked arena, and a deadly confrontation with a beast from the depths of the Earth!
Featuring “Tarzan” illustrations by Michael Wm. Kaluta. Awesome!!
