Team 7, an elite unit of Navy SEALs, is set up by the U.S. government to be unwitting guinea pigs for an experiment which gives them immense psychic powers and makes them the ultimate weapon. But the powers are more than many of them can – or should even be asked to – handle, and the stresses of dealing with what they’ve become, added to the continuous, insidious, manipulation and betrayal by a government they had previously trusted, is starting to drive the elite team apart…
Stories/Spoilers
In issue #1, “Gone Animal”, Team 7, a secret military unit, gets screwed over by International Operations, the organization they work for, and are exposed to an unknown biological agent. Before they were Grifter, Backlash, Dane, Lynch, and Deathblow, these heroes of the Wildstorm Universe were part of International Operations’ elite military force called Team 7. But when the team is sent on a mission that turns out to suicide, they quickly find out why they’re the 7 team. But instead of dying, they become endowed with extraordinary powers. And to make matters worse, I.O. knew it would happen.
Features a Centerfold Pin-Up by Aron Wiesenfeld & Trevor Scott
Also features/includes the Variant Cover #1 by: Whilce Portacio & Alex Garner! (see 2nd scan)
Next in issue #2, “The Damned Don’t Die”, Team 7 are recovered by I.O. and begin to exhibit special powers and abilities from the strange biological agent they were exposed to; Some of them die while some of them thrive and Craven sends the surviving members of the team back into action with their new abilities. Some of the members of Team 7 have been driven mad by their powers. This has led some of the team to kill others as well as themselves. Miles Craven tries to convince the surviving team members that the mission where they were exposed to the Gen-Factor (which gave them their powers) was not intentional. But one of the abilities Grifter obtained was telepathy and he knows Craven is lying. The team is sent back into the field to take down a dictator. One of Team 7’s members, Johnson, uses his powers to control the dictator and force him to kill his people and then himself. When Grifter sees this, he kills Johnson, fearing what Team 7 has become.
Features a Centerfold Pin-Up by Jeff Rebner & Chuck Gibson
Next in issue #3, “Loyalties”, Team 7 continue to develop their mental powers, and continue getting screwed by IO. Lynch is prepared to kill Grifter for what he did to Johnson. Grifter welcomes death after what he feels the team has become but Lynch can’t bring himself to kill Grifter. Dane uses his powers to help the team escape. Later, as Alex Fairchild and Grifter relax at a bar, Fairchild tries to use his powers to pick up a woman. Grifter stops him but not before some International Operations agents witness the incident. Meanwhile, somewhere in , a Soviet Gen-Active tells General Mbong of Team 7 and they prepare to take them out. The team is sent on another mission to destroy a nuclear reactor. But when they arrive they find that there is no reactor and that they’ve been set up again. Deathblow, who had been left behind, realizes what’s going on but is arrested before he can do anything. He discovers a nuke has been launched at Team 7’s location.
Features a Centerfold Pin-Up by Aron Wiesenfeld & Alex Garner
Finally in issue #4, “The Furious”, Team 7 finally gets the picture when I.O. tries to nuke them, and they go into hiding (all except for Deathblow who goes back to jail). Deathblow escapes custody and radios the other members of Team 7, telling them about the nuke headed their way. Grifter hits on the idea that if they combine their powers, they can form a force field that could protect them from the blast. The team complies and they survive the blast. Knowing his teammates are safe, Deathblow surrenders to the authorities. When the helicopters arrive to pick up the team, only Lynch boards the chopper. In the Soviet Union, Commissar Rostov wakes up knowing that something “terrible and magnificent” has happened. Six months later, Team 7 (minus Lynch) are hiding out in Nicaragua. They have grown tired of hiding from Miles Craven so they decide to head back and start looking for answers.
