Description
Team One: Stormwatch / WildC.A.T.S. Comics Lot
Double Feature with Team One: Stormwatch & Team One: WildC.A.T.S.
Team One: Stormwatch
This two-issue mini series delves into the past of the WildStorm Universe, showing us the men and women who formed Team One, and hinting at how that group would affect the later organization, StormWatch. The story follows the devious Miles Craven and his efforts to put together a superteam to stop an impending alien threat striking at American military installations. The people Craven pulls together are a broad mix of patriotism, nobility, self-interest, and homicidal psychosis. But when they hit the ground on their first assignment, they will have to decide who is the more dangerous enemy: the aliens, or Miles Craven himself.
Team One: WildC.A.T.S.
This two-issue series gives the same treatment to WildC.A.T.s, telling how a man called Baxter (the previous incarnation of WildC.A.T.s leader Jacob Marlowe) assembled a group of super-heroes into the first C.A.T. (Covert Action Team). This series lets the reader in on the secret past. Marlowe/Baxter runs a huge company as a front for his war on the evil Daemonites, a race of aliens who are trying to take over the planet. The original team, “Team One,” was made up of seven members: John Colt, who was the model for Spartan; Majestic, your basic superman; cold warrior Mason Kerouac, telepath Isaiah King; gung-ho soldier Marc Slayton; armored warrior Henry Bendix (a.k.a. Think Tank); and talkative Regiment.

At Cape Canaveral, an intruder tries to sabotage the launch of a classified U.S. military satellite but is shot by U.S. Air Force Sgt. Marc “Slay” Slayton. Slayton and a reporter witness the intruder reveal its true Daemonite form just before the rocket launch incinerates it. The military conducts a cover-up to discredit the reporter so Slayton meets with covert operative Lucy Blaize in Washington, D.C. to learn more. She informs him of a similar attack on a submarine facility and that she is forming a team to investigate. Slayton wants to join it. Later, Blaize argues with International Operations head Miles Craven about staffing the team and assigns him an advisor, Special Agent Trelane. In Nebraska, Helspont introduces himself to superhuman mob boss Slaughterhouse Smith and his men. At a secret facility in West Virginia, Dr. Trina Nychus tests subjects with psionic abilities, among them telepath Isaiah King. On Trelane’s advice, Craven approves John Colt, Mr. Majestic, and Mason for the team along with Slayton, King, cybernetic weapons developer Henry “Think Tank” Bendix, and the enhanced covert operative Regiment. As the team trains, Craven designates it Team One.

In a classified facility, members of Team One reflect on their experiences with the team as Operation Wildstorm prepares to launch. Slay recalls training with John Colt and Regiment, Regiment and Think Tank resent Miles Craven’s domineering leadership, and Isaiah King prays as he remembers being caught AWOL visiting his wife. Soon, en route to Camp Williams, North Dakota, Agent Trelane briefs the team that mob boss Slaughterhouse Smith and a group of aliens have taken control of the base and are threatening to launch a nuclear missile at a major U.S. city unless they are paid $100 million. The objective of Operation Wildstorm is to terminate the intruders and stop the launch. Team One parachutes onto the installation as, inside, Helspont orders a missile strike on New York City. Smith objects, but his men turn on him and side with Helspont. Team One enters and the battle begins. Majestic recognizes the aliens as Daemonites. King, having no combat experience, panics. He tries to stop the missile launch while Regiment leaves to find the silo. He leaps aboard the missile when it launches and rides it away. Inside, Slay engages Smith, and Daemonites overrun the team just before the lights go out.

Void finds Jacob Marlowe alone in his office, wondering what kind of man he was before his amnesia… In the 1960s, he is known as Saul Baxter, a secretive U.S. defense contractor and strategic mastermind whose latest initiative is development of the first ballistic submarine. A soldier bursts into his office, warning him that the submarine is under attack. Baxter arrives on the scene to find one man slaughtering several soldiers and recognizes the attacker as a Daemonite, the first he has encountered since 1906. Disguising psionic blasts with a blowtorch, Baxter kills the attacker. Anticipating a fresh wave of Daemonite aggression, he enlists the help of a fellow Kherubim who works for the U.S. military as covert operative Lucy Blaize. At his behest, she recruits a team, starting with her lover, anti-Communist fighter Maj. John Colt, as well as the mysterious vigilante Mason and superhero Mr. Majestic. In Nebraska, Helspont watches superhuman mob boss Slaughterhouse Smith rob and massacre a military convoy. Meanwhile, Blaize finishes staffing her team with telepath Isaiah King, fighters Marc “Slay” Slayton and Regiment, and Henry Bendix a.k.a. Think Tank. She and Colt both ponder leaving but convince each other to stay. Elsewhere, Helspont recruits Smith and his assistant, Daniel Pike, to join The Cabal. At Camp Pendleton, California, Baxter and Blaize meet as International Operations head Miles Craven formally introduces the team as Team One.

Two months after the formation of Team One, Lucy Blaize briefs Saul Baxter on the team’s status. Recalling members arguing over who would lead it, she informs him that she appointed John Colt as field leader. Once again, Blaize wants to quit, but Baxter convinces her to stay and support Colt. In North Dakota, Helspont leads the Cabal in an attack on Camp Williams, a nuclear missile base. Team One learns of the attack and scrambles to intervene. As the team is briefed en route, several members remember events in their lives: Colt recalls Blaize ending their romance; Majestic expresses his lack of direction to Baxter; Baxter remembers fighting a Daemonite as Lord Emp; Mason taunts a woman with a knife; a doctor informs Blaize that she is pregnant. At Camp Williams, Helspont orders his henchmen to launch a missile at New York City. This angers Slaughterhouse Smith who thought the plan was to threaten Washington, D.C. with the missiles and hold the United States for ransom. To Smith’s dismay, his men side with Helspont. Team One arrives and engages the Cabal. Majestic battles Helspont while Isaiah King and Regiment work to stop the missile launch. Daemonites overwhelm the team, and Colt orders Majestic to destroy them even though Colt himself will be caught in the blast. Majestic does as Colt asks and Team One fights on just as the lights go out.
