Terminator is an American media franchise created by James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd. The franchise encompasses a series of science fiction action films, comics, novels, and additional media, concerning a total war between Skynet’s synthetic intelligence – a self-aware military machine network – and John Connor’s Resistance forces comprising the survivors of the human race. Skynet’s most famous products in its genocidal goals are the various terminator models, such as the T-800, who was portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger from the original Terminator film in 1984.
The Terminator is a 1984 science fiction action film released by Orion Pictures, co-written and directed by James Cameron and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn. It is the first work in the Terminator franchise. In the film, machines take over the world in the near future, directed by the artificial intelligence Skynet. With its sole mission to completely annihilate humanity, it develops android assassins called Terminators that outwardly appear human. A man named John Connor starts the Tech-Com resistance to fight the machines, defeat Skynet and free humanity. With a human victory imminent, the machines’ only choice is to send a Terminator back in time to kill John’s mother, Sarah Connor, and prevent the boy’s birth, thereby handicapping the resistance from ever being founded in the first place. With the fate of humanity at stake, John sends soldier Kyle Reese back to protect Sarah Connor, and thus ensure his own existence.
Now, Dark Horse Comics presents, The Terminator: 1984. A Terminator story that takes place during and after the events of the first 1984 Terminator movie.
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, After the shocking events he witnessed in humanity’s future, Kyle Reese has made the history-changing jump from the year 2029 to a world previously beyond his imagining-1984 Los Angeles. It’s a time before the war, before Skynet, but not without danger, as Kyle begins his mission to find and protect Sarah Connor from time-traveling T-800s. Close behind is Kyle’s friend Ben, with a crucial mission of his own.
Next in issue #2, Kyle Reese nears the completion of his mission in the past when he locates Sarah Connor in 1984 Los Angeles. However, protecting her from the Terminator sent to kill her proves more difficult than he realized. In 2029 Kyle had backup, advanced weaponry, and obvious targets-now he’s on his own against killer machines that look just like people. Fortunately, Ben is making progress in his own mission-protecting Kyle-as he finally catches up with his friend.
Finally in issue #3, The future of humanity seems more uncertain than ever as Kyle and Ben are forced to battle an entirely new Terminator threat alongside a very pregnant Sarah Connor! It’s the blowout conclusion to Zack Whedon and Andy MacDonald’s inspired reimagining of the original Terminator saga!
