Terminator is an American media franchise created by James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd. The franchise encompasses a series of science fiction action films, comics, novels, and additional media, concerning a total war between Skynet’s synthetic intelligence – a self-aware military machine network – and John Connor’s Resistance forces comprising the survivors of the human race. Skynet’s most famous products in its genocidal goals are the various terminator models, such as the T-800, who was portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger from the original Terminator film in 1984.
The Terminator is a 1984 science fiction action film released by Orion Pictures, co-written and directed by James Cameron and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn. It is the first work in the Terminator franchise. In the film, machines take over the world in the near future, directed by the artificial intelligence Skynet. With its sole mission to completely annihilate humanity, it develops android assassins called Terminators that outwardly appear human. A man named John Connor starts the Tech-Com resistance to fight the machines, defeat Skynet and free humanity. With a human victory imminent, the machines’ only choice is to send a Terminator back in time to kill John’s mother, Sarah Connor, and prevent the boy’s birth, thereby handicapping the resistance from ever being founded in the first place. With the fate of humanity at stake, John sends soldier Kyle Reese back to protect Sarah Connor, and thus ensure his own existence.
Now, Dark Horse Comics presents, it’s very first Terminator comic series. A comic “sequel” to the 1984 Terminator movie. When the first Terminator robot fails to accomplish its mission, a new squad of Terminators are “born” and sent back in time. They’re followed by colonel Mary Randall and her troop of soldiers, all fighting to keep their future from ever happening. If one Terminator is hard to beat, what happens when you’re up against three?
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, 39 years in the future as humans continue to struggle under the extermination directive of the Machine. The story follows a small band of soldiers with a plan to return to the past – with three new Terminators in hot pursuit!
Next in issue #2, The soldiers from the future are in present-day Los Angeles, biding their time, shopping for groceries, and…romancing a young scientist? The young Dr. Astin works for a man named Hollister, and the soldiers aren’t the only ones interested in him, as our three other visitors from the future, the Terminators, are also out to find Hollister! But who is he? And what importance does he play in all these beings’ lives?
Next in issue #3, The Terminators set out to help Dr. Hollister create the Terminator technology! Meanwhile, Hollister’s assistant, Dr. Astin, is having trouble deciding whether he should aid and abet our human heroes. As Astin makes up his mind, the Terminators throw another wrench into the works by blowing up the future freedom fighters’ home base!
Finally in issue #4, The rebel soldiers face off against the Terminators in an attempt to keep them from giving the Terminator technology to Dr. Hollister. A stalemate seems inevitable until the rebels join forces with… a Terminator?
