Billions of years ago, there was a cosmic explosion and with it came creation and the concept of life. This Big Bang created life as we know it, but there was another explosion that eliminated it and it was this destruction that bore a single being.
IDW Publishing presents, “The Bigger Bang”. A cosmic-scope sort of story with superbeings in space. It’s the story of Cosmos, who was birthed in the “Bigger Bang” that destroyed one universe, causing him to find another where he might attempt to atone for the nature of his birth.
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, The Big Bang created all life as we know it. The Bigger Bang creates just one: a being named Cosmos. Is he a destroyer? A hero? A god? All he knows is that he’s completely alone in what was our universe… so he seeks out another where he’ll try to atone for the sins of his mysterious creation.
Includes Pin-Up by Nick Brokenshire.
Concept Pin-ups by Vassilis Gogtzilas.
Next in issue #2, Inside King Thulu’s throne room on his castle spaceship where Captain Wyan, the soldier who ignored the king’s order to destroy Cosmos last issue, is brought in for her disobedience. After telling the king why Cosmos might better serve as an ally than enemy, King Thulu dispatches Wyan to find Cosmos and persuade him to meet the king. Meanwhile, we’re taken to Voltrax 3, sister planet of the more ‘evolved’ Voltrax 4, to find Cosmos chilling and eating a space apple. After defending the residents of Voltrax 3 from unmanned drones from Voltrax 4, Cosmos and Wyan meet and we’re treated to the first instance of spoken dialogue from the godly superbeing.
Includes Pin-Up by Dean Haspiel.
Concept Pin-ups by Vassilis Gogtzilas.
Next in issue #3, Cosmos and Wyan meet King Thulu, who has hatched a scheme to convert Cosmos into his puppet to expand his galactic empire. King Thulu attempts to do this through a mixture of sucking up to Cosmos in eye-rolling fashion, and taking advantage of the latter’s heroic impulses, sending Cosmos off to prevent an asteroid from colliding with an inhabited planet and then using propaganda to convince people who Cosmos was acting under the King’s orders. Following this save, Cosmos believes he has finally been accepted by other beings only to find out that Thulu’s citizens faked that acceptance under the king’s orders.
Includes Pin-Up by Dave Crosland.
Finally in issue #4, Proceeding directly from the last issue’s events, Cosmos flies off following Wyan’s reveal about her past genocidal actions. Cosmos finds this information much more devastating than any battle he has faced so far. Later, Cosmos meets up with a pal we haven’t seen since the premiere, getting some sound advice about dealing with the guilt he feels due to the cost of his birth. From there, the issue then turns into an all-out brawl between Cosmos and King Thulu and his forces.
Features Wrap-a-around cover art by Vassilis Gogtzilas.
