Description
The Collected Sláine Over-sized Trade Paperback
Out of a world of mists and magic, sword and sorcery, comes the ultimate Celtic warrior: SLAINE.
Writers: Pat Mills & Angie Mills
Artists: Mike McMahon, Dave Pugh, Glenn Fabry, Angie Mills, Massimo Bellardinelli, Mike Collins, Mike Farmer & Simon Bisley
Cover by: Glenn Fabry
Sláine is a comic hero that was first published in British magazine 2000 AD. Sláine is a barbarian fantasy adventure series based on Celtic myths and stories that first appeared in 1983, written by Pat Mills and initially drawn by his then wife, Angela Kincaid. Most of the early stories were drawn by Massimo Belardinelli and Mike McMahon. Other notable artists to have worked on the character include Glenn Fabry, Greg Staples, Clint Langley, Cam Kennedy and Simon Bisley. Sláine’s favourite weapon is an axe called “Brainbiter”. He has the power of the “warp spasm”, based on the ríastrad or body-distorting battle frenzy of the Irish hero Cú Chulainn, in which earth power “warps” through his body, turning him into a terrifying, monstrously powerful figure. He is a devotee of the earth goddess Danu.
Trapped between magic and science, cold steel can be a very warm friend.
Imagine a time so ancient that England is not an Island, but part of a great land mass. A time when magic reigned supreme, and a man’s worth was measured by the strength of his sword arm. A time when the Earth was used as a kind of prison for powerful alien beings. This was a time of Sláine MacRoth – a man of cunning and courage, who could contain the battle frenzy of the Warp-Spasm. He was Sláine the Berserker, warrior without equal. His fate will be the fate of Earth itself, as the forces of man, magic, and science clash as they never would again! Created by Pat Mills and Mike McMahon, Sláine is not your average hack-em-up-rescue-the-king’s-daughter-from-the-evil-wizard-go-get-drunk kind of barbarian!! Sláine’s origins are culled from actual Celtic legend, but adventures border the cosmic!
Now, Titan Books presents a journey like no other in, “The Collected Sláine”. Exiled from his tribe, he is forced to roam the land of Tir-non-Og with his dwarf, Ukko. Ahead o him lie terrifying ordeals that will require all of Slaine’s famed warrior strength if he is to return victorious to claim his rightful place as King.
