Description

The Dracula Chronicles                  Comics Lot
The Dracula Chronicles (1995) reprints Dracula – Vlad the Impaler (1993) Issues #1-3 Topps Comics with new cover art by Joseph Linsner. Awesome!!
Writer: Roy Thomas
Artist: Esteban Maroto
Inker: Paul Mounts
Letterer: John Constanza
Editor: Jim Salicrup
All Covers by: Joseph Linsner

Dracula is one of the most horrifying and enduring figures in all of fiction. Created by novelist Bram Stoker, his legend has been expanded in countless books and films. But there was also a real Dracula, a prince of Wallachia and son of Vlad Dracul (“The Dragon”). His father was a tyrant, ambitiously seeking to wrest power from the struggle of East against West in the time of the Crusades. When his father was killed, Vlad Dracul the Younger (“Vlad Dracula”) proved even more merciless. When he assumed power in Wallachia, he sought out the traitorous boyars who led to his parents’ death. On Easter Sunday, he invited them to his palace for a feast, then had his guards arrest them. They marched the boyars for days, then forced them to build castle Dracula. The weak who could not make the journey were impaled on stakes, giving him the name Vlad the Impaler. And the terror had only begun!

Story/Spoilers:
In issue #1, “I Am Dracula”, In the bloody history of the Balkans, no man was the equal of the monstrous Prince Vlad Tepes – a man devoid of mercy, a man whose order and deeds condemned not scores, not hundreds, but tens of thousands of men, women and children to hideous death by impalement. In the first issue, witness the growth of the child, Vlad Dracula, medieval prince of Wallachia, and his swift initiation into an intrigue-laden life of brutality, blood-letting and betrayal. Learning at bitter cost how… and why… he can trust no man, not even his brother, the child Vlad Dracula grows into a man obsessed with the desire to survive and wreak vengeance. Behold how, as Prince Dracula, he begins to turn that desire into terrifying reality… and in so doing becomes Vlad the Impaler!

Next in issue #2, “Dark Legend A-borning”, Prince Vlad Dracula seizes the throne of Wallachia and slashes into battle against the bloodthirsty hordes of the Turkish empire with horrifying results! Now, Vlad is forced to combat his most deadly foe: his brother Radu, the willing puppet of the Turks!

Finally in issue #3, “To Rise Again”, Before the legend, Count Dracula the vampire, could exist, the man of history, Prince Vlad Dracula of Wallachia, Vlad the Impaler, had to die and be reborn! Is it really Prince Dracula’s head that rots in the sun that bathes Byzantium? Rumors from Wallachia and Transylvania claim that it is not. Instead, something far more horrifying has happened to Vlad Dracula, the man who died beneath an assassin’s blade. Rumors claim Dracula is back as a prince of the undead, and that he… not the sultan… will drink the final bloody drops from the cup called revenge.
