Description
The Incredible Hulk (1968) #111 Comic
Writer: Stan Lee
Artist: Herb Trimpe
Inker: Dan Adkins
Letterer: Sam Rosen
Editor: Stan Lee
Cover by: Dan Adkins & Herb Trimpe
Bruce Banner was a respected scientist who was working for the military to develop a gamma bomb. Seconds before the gamma bomb was to be tested, he saw a young man driving through the test area. Banner ordered the countdown stopped and raced to save the man—but a jealous research assistant neglected to stop the countdown, and the bomb was exploded. Although Banner was able to get the boy to safety, he was caught in the gamma radiation released by the bomb. Thereafter, whenever he became angry, he found himself changing into a huge green monster with unbelievable strength. This monster became known as the Incredible Hulk.
Although the Hulk initially was a stupid, destructive incarnation of Banner’s primal side, it was recently integrated with Banner’s intellect (in issue #377). The new Hulk, although never reverting to human form, is a far more interesting character than the original.
Story/Spoilers
In “Shanghaied in Space!”, The aliens who sent Umbu to destroy the earth capture Bruce Banner after the Hulk defeats their killer robot; Bringing him back to life (Bruce died at the end of last issue), the aliens find they have their hands full as they wage a pitched space battle with Bruce’s alter ego, the incredible Hulk; Making it to their home planet, Hulk finds himself faced with the awesome might of the Galaxy Master.
The aliens who created the device to change Earth’s orbit have detected the machine’s destruction and send a robot out to bring them the one responsible. While in the Savage Land, Ka-Zar and Zabu leaves the dying body of Bruce Banner behind to seek out herbs to try and heal Banner, leaving him to be picked up by the alien’s robot and brought to their ship in space, where they intend to bring him to their master, the Galaxy Master.
Reviving Banner with their technology, the aliens are ordered to put Banner in a pressure lock and kill him. However, Banner begins to transform into the Hulk and smashes his way loose. He battles the aliens and their weapons in the vacuum of space. During the fight the Hulk enters an exhaust tube, where the aliens try to burn him alive. However, the engine explodes, causing the ship to crash on their home planet. When the Hulk revives, he finds himself before the Galaxy Master, a giant mass of energy, that boasts that it is indestructible.
