One modern horror mainstay combines with one legendary master in this showcase of Bernie Wrightson’s beautiful black and white art. A collection so terrifying, so huge, so gritty and raw that it had to be called monstrous! Collecting the collaborations between two living horror legends, this collection includes three complete tales: Dead She Said, The Ghoul, and Doc Macabre, each a piece of the dark, dangerous universe Steve Niles has created in the shadows of the world we think we know.
The Monstrous Collection of Stevie Niles & Bernie Wrightson contains:
“Dead, She Said”
Legendary comic book artist Bernie Wrightson inks his own work for the first time in more than two decades! And joining Wrightson on this noir horror tale is the writer who has revitalized both genres in comics, Steve Niles.
Story/Spoilers
In part #1, Detective Coogan knows well that there are some pretty shady freaks out there in the big city… but he doesn’t know that some of those freaks ain’t human. He learns it the hard way, and ends up on the wrong side of a bullet.
Next in part #2, Detective Coogan is dead and falling apart fast. Now he is not only in a race to solve his own murder, but in a race to save his body before he falls apart. Dr. Baxter finally reveals what he’s been hiding that was worth killing for…
Finally in part #3, Coogan has reached the end of the line, and there’s no question whether or not he’ll survive to see it through. Dying is the least of his worries now that there are giant ants running amok.

“The Ghoul”
Legends Bernie Wrightson and Steve Niles present “The Ghoul”, a creature that was once human during the Middle Ages but by unknown means was transformed into a seemingly monstrous creature. With his supernatural abilities and experience, in the field he was enlisted in the Federal Bureau of Special Investigation and codenamed “The Ghoul” after being found living in the sewers.
Story/Spoilers
In part #1, When Los Angeles Detective Lieutenant Lloyd Klimpt finds himself in the middle of a Hollywood mystery that falls way outside the norm, he knows he’s going to need a different kind of help than he’s used to. He finds it in the bizarre form of The Ghoul, a monstrous investigator with a reputation for solving the world’s weirdest crimes.
Next in part #2, The Ghoul arrives in Los Angeles and quickly learns that there’s more to Hollywood than glitz and glamour-there are also demons invading Griffith Park and a cop named Klimpt, who is convinced an aging starlet is a blood-sucking freak of her own creation. It’s the Ghoul versus Demons in this knockdown, drag-out melee of monstrous behemoths!
Finally in part #3, After a brief, demonic waylay, the Ghoul and Detective Klimpt finally come face-to-face with the horror they have sought. What began as a Hollywood rumor takes a twisted turn for the worst and the recently teamed-up monster and cop find themselves in a nightmare of glitz, glamour and guts!
——————————————————————————–
“Doc Macabre”
Another classic by Bernie Wrightson and Steve Niles featuring a paranormal enthusiast that goes by Doc Macbre and his sidekick Lloyd. Together they must solve a tough mystery surrounding fake ghost activity.
Story/Spoilers
In part #1, Doctor Macabre and his assistant Lloyd are supernatural experts. Solving case after case successfully, they finally stumble across a case where something seems off… Have they met their match?
Next in part #2, Back at his homebase, the good Doctor asks his butler/lab assistant robot, Llyod, to help him build an Ecto-Refractor Suit and get his latest invention, the Ecto-Fusion Coil, back up and running to summon back the ghost that attacked him last issue! But he soon finds out that the apparition is a scam and sends Lloyd on a mission which means the robot must venture outside of the headquarters…
Finally in part #3, After conducting experiments to detect artificial ghost hauntings, Doc Macabre and his robot pal, Lloyd, finally track down the culprit. With solid leads and advice from Dead, She Said’s Coogan and The Ghoul, young Doc Macabre is ready to confront the Swami of Real Estate.
