Description
The Return of Tarzan Comics Lot
Original Story by: Edgar Rice Burroughs
Writer: Thomas Yeates
Artist: Thomas Yeates
Colorist: James Sinclair
Letterer: Steve Dutro
Editor: Peet Janes
All Covers by: John Totleben
A frightened child runs into his village sounding an alarm about a white man. During the African slave trade years, this is a call to arms. Amazingly, this “white man” is treated as a long-time family member and not as an enemy. When children begin asking questions about the stranger, it’s an ideal situation for telling stories. The children quickly learn that the waziri is none other than Tarzan. One imagines the children leaning closer to the storyteller as she recalls Tarzan’s adventures. As day becomes night, she speaks about Tarzan’s battles with monsters, holding a child’s attention merely on the breath of her words. Shadows of campfire flames are dancing across her face when speaking about Tarzan’s great love, Jane Porter. Close your eyes and see the Lord of the Apes adventures based on the characters and settings of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Thomas Yeates adapts Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Return of Tarzan to comics… with “Tarzan” cover art by John Totleben. Awesome!!
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, Though born in London, he is not a Briton. Although his skin is white, the white man is not his brother. His home is the African jungle, and his people are the natives that live there. Christened John Clayton, he has forsaken that name in favor of another, one that is spoken with honor and respect by the Waziri tribe, and with hatred by those who would enslave them. He is Tarzan and he has returned to his beloved jungle. He has returned to his home.
Next in issue #2, There are stories of a great, ancient city within the jungles of Africa, a place which, legend has it, served as an outpost to the citizens of Atlantis. This is the fabulous city of Opar. But some legends are best left as dreams, as Tarzan discovers when he locates the city and is chosen to be a sacrifice to the sun god the citizens worship!
Finally in issue #3, To find one treasure and lose another…! In his trek out of Opar, the Lord of the Apes discovers a cache of gold bars. And just as soon as he’s hidden the treasure, he is drawn back to the African city, where his beloved Jane has been kidnapped. Just as he has buried the treasure, so shall he bury the men who would manhandle Jane!
