In two months — the world.”The Strain is a 2009 vampire horror novel by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. It is the first installment in The Strain Trilogy, and was followed by The Fall (2010) and The Night Eternal (2011). The Strain limited comic book series (2011-2013) written David Lapham, with artist Mike Huddleston was adapted from the novel of the same name. A television adaptation premiered on FX in 2014 and concluded in 2017. The Strain is widely acclaimed and considered Vampire Horror at its Finest!

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, When a Boeing 777 lands at JFK International Airport and goes dark on the runway, the Center for Disease Control, fearing a terrorist attack, calls in Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his team of expert biological-threat first responders. Only an elderly pawnbroker from Spanish Harlem suspects a darker purpose behind the event-an ancient threat intent on covering mankind in darkness.

Next in issue #2, As an eclipse covers New York City in midday darkness, Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his team from the Centers for Disease Control struggle to find an explanation for what happened to Flight 753. But when the symptoms don’t add up to chemical warfare, and bizarre circumstances unexplained by modern medicine arise, Ephraim begins to entertain the ramblings of a Holocaust survivor who knows too much about this unknown threat.

Next in issue #3, Dr. Ephraim Goodweather scrambles to prevent a possible epidemic and find out what caused the deaths of hundreds of passengers on Flight 753. Terrorism? Chemical warfare? An airborne disease? None of the likely candidates have reared their heads, but as the first night since the incident at JFK International Airport falls on Manhattan, the question is . . . what will?

Next in issue #4, The first night has fallen, and pale creatures roam the streets as a dark shadow creeps over New York City. Dr. Ephraim Goodweather is no closer to solving the mystery behind these strange incidents, and-though he doesn’t know it-a new visitor to the city has arrived with plans to thwart his efforts even further!

Next in issue #5, Consistently a step ahead of the Centers for Disease Control, elderly pawnbroker Abraham Setrakian seems to have an intimate knowledge of the epidemic rapidly spreading across New York City and the hideous creatures it’s spawning. How does he know what’s happening? Where did he learn about the grotesque monsters roaming the streets at night? And, most importantly, does he know how to stop them? The scope of the mystery widens as the man who seemingly has all the answers reveals his history in the extermination camps of Nazi-occupied Poland and his first encounter with the beast behind Manhattan’s invasion.

Next in issue #6, An inexplicable epidemic that’s mutating people into bloodthirsty beasts forces Dr. Ephraim Goodweather to turn to an unlikely source for help. What secrets might be revealed in a pawnshop in Brooklyn? A plague is coming. Is it already too late to save Manhattan from this vampiric menace?

Next in issue #7, What might swarms of sewer rats and a New York City pest-control specialist tell Dr. Ephraim Goodweather about the growing vampire population? Evidence gathered from beneath the city may hold the key to defeating the plague now besetting Manhattan.

Next in issue #8, As an epidemic of vampirism engulfs Manhattan, Dr. Ephraim Goodweather tries to uncover the conspiracy aiding these monsters’ ascent to dominance. Meanwhile, an attack in a police transport will force one man to become a vampire killer instead of a meal!

Next in issue #9, Due to the machinations of a vast conspiracy, convincing the world that there’s a vampiric epidemic spreading across Manhattan has been impossible for the CDC’s Dr. Ephraim Goodweather. However, video footage of these vicious beasts-proof of their horrifying existence-might be the first step in turning the tide against the wave of bloodthirsty vamps set to drown the Big Apple.

Next in issue #10, Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his companions arm themselves and head deep below New York City to smoke out the leader of the vampire menace. But before they can enter his lair, they’re paid a deadly visit from the towering beast himself-the Master!

Finally in issue #11, Cornered and on the run in the dark home of a goth-rock superstar, the Master heads for the high ground as Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his companions discover the ultimate vampire nest. Can Goodweather and his compatriots defeat this monstrous bloodsucker?
