Description

The Thing from Another World and Climate of Fear                        Trade Paperback
Cover by: John Higgins

They found it frozen in the Antarctic: a shapeshifting alien killer capable of duplicating any being it comes into contact with. Released from its icy prison, The Thing went on a rampage of terror and destruction until one man, MacReady, thought he had destroyed it. He was wrong. He’s free of the Antarctic at last, but so is The Thing. Now, in a South American military base, the nightmare begins again, and all humanity is in danger. But how can you kill a monster who could be anyone – even MacReady?

The Thing from Another World and Climate of Fear Trade Paperback contains:
“The Thing from Another World”
Writer: Chuck Pfarrer
Artist: John Higgins
Letterer: Richard Starkings
Editor: Randy Stradley
Covers by: John Higgins

First Aliens. Then Predator. Then Terminator and Indiana Jones. Can Dark Horse do it again? What do you think? Picking up where John Carpenter’s film left off: MacReady is certain he’s going to die. But he doesn’t care–as long as he can destroy the frozen remains of the Thing before he freezes to death. That shouldn’t be too much of a problem, should it? Should it?

Story/Spoilers
In part #1, Three days ago, U.S. Antarctic Research Outpost #31 discovered an alien organism out on the frozen ice. Almost immediately, this ghastly organism had begun to infect the outpost’s men, assuming their forms and identities as it killed them. Its eventual goal: to find transportation to a warmer—and more densely populated area.

Finally in part #2, Yesterday, the final survivors of Outpost #31 had thought they had destroyed the organism—this “Thing From Another World”—although ten of their number had died in the process. Only two men were still alive…but there was still the question of whether one of them had been infected by the Thing. There was still a chance that they might be rescued before the icy cold claimed their lives…but if either of them still harbored the organism, who would save their rescuers?

Story/Spoilers
In part #1, MacReady awakes to discover that he’s been transported to an Argentinian military base far from Antarctica…but so has the Thing!

Next part #2, Nerves are on edge for the residents of the Argentine base at Bahia Thetis, and no wonder: at least one person in the camp is really The Thing!

Next in part #3, MacReady thought Childs was dead – until his old friend showed up at the Argentine base with a contingent of American commandos. But is it really Childs, or yet another incarnation of the shape-shifting Thing from another world? And how can MacReady be sure he himself isn’t infected?

Finally in part #4, MacReady discovers that the Thing has been busy building a ship — and it’s up to him to destroy the alien before it can take off to a more populated area. But how much good is a can of gas and a torch against a monster the size of a locomotive?
