Created by Robert Kirkman, along with Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard in 2003, the comic book series and the TV show that followed, form the core of The Walking Dead franchise. The story features a large ensemble cast as survivors of a zombie apocalypse trying to stay alive under near-constant threat of attacks from zombies known as “walkers”. With the collapse of modern civilization, these survivors must confront other human survivors who have formed groups and communities with their own sets of laws and morals, sometimes leading to open conflict between them.

The Walking Dead Book Two features issues #13-24 of the hit Image Comics series along with the covers for the issues all in one over-sized hardcover volume. Perfect for long time fans, new readers and anyone needing a slightly heavy object with which to fend off the walking dead. In this volume, the band of survivors set up a permanent camp inside a prison. However, life in the prison starts to get interesting for Rick Grimes and the rest of the survivors. Relationships heat up, fizzle out, and change entirely almost overnight. As characters die, and the team of survivors learn there’s something far more deadly than zombies out there…each other. By the end of this volume, relationships between key characters are radically changed, setting the stage for future events in THE WALKING DEAD. Story/Spoilers
Chapter Three – “Safety Behind Bars”, After being forced to leave the farm, Rick’s group stumbles upon what seems to be a permanent sanctuary, an abandoned prison. Soon after clearing one cell block and settling in, the survivors learn that they are not the only residents of this prison and realize for the first time that the greatest threat to their survival in this new world may not be the dead, but the living.

Chapter Four – “The Heart’s Desire”, The group manages to quell Dexter’s rebellion and further secure the prison. At the same time, a katana-wielding woman named Michonne arrives at the prison seeking refuge. Her arrival leads to a major schism within the group, and Rick’s role as leader is questioned as the others start to fear for his sanity. The volume ends with one simple proclamation that will forever change the survivors of The Walking Dead.
